Couldn't stop at chapter one, but I had to stop at chapter two because I have an appointment later. Else I would end up with Gucci bags under my eyes. :-( All righty, on with the 2-in-1 review! Hehe...
I'm charmed by the setting, first of all. I doubt many of us had the privilege of staying in a ryokan, let alone having a peep behind the scenes and knowing how one is run. You've allowed us a glimpse with this fic. :) I enjoyed the initial conflict between Sesshoumaru and Kagome; it was done with enough humour and wit, and stayed rather true to the characters. Kagome must be quite desperate for the money to jump into this! And Sesshoumaru must be equally desperate for the future of the ryokan to accept the terms in the will. (An aside - how is a shrine financially sustained in real life? Government funds? Clan-/ association-run? Solely on donations by devotees? *blinks*)
Ah, reality finally sank in for Kagome in chapter two. And the trading of barbs continues! Someone tell them to think of it as a business arrangement, not a marriage! LOL. (Speaking of nuptials, what did they go through to officially declare their married status? Not a conventional wedding? I'm so nosy, like the resident gossipy ah soh.) I'm enjoying the way Sesshoumaru kept annoying her with his cutting remarks, and the moment where the veil lifted a little from his eyes when he saw Kagome's determination.
The brief description of Shiraito and its surroundings gave me mental images of rural beauty - water runing down glazed clay tiles of the roofs, maple leaves dripping from the rain, looking greener against the dark wet trunks and branches, and endless views of overcast skies, devoid of skyscrapers. :)
I will be back to read and review the next chapters. Pwomise!
Lol. The ending was the best! Hahaha peeping tom. Great chpt! thanks for updating so soon your the best!!!
Noacat (Chapter 10) - Wed 30 Jun 2010
Yes! Hot tub hijinks!
Knocked out with a flying shampoo bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I have never had tempura mushrooms. Now I'm thinking about food. Sounds scrumptious...
Oh...the classic bathroom awkward moment! Very well played. But the fact that she clipped him with the shampoo bottle? Priceless. :D
I very much enjoyed the overdose of Fluff in this chapter. Good job!
YES the bath scene!!!! I've been hoping there would be a scene like this! hahaha. It's so wonderfully classic like in those animes. I really enjoy reading this fic and hope to see more soon!
REDWOLF (Chapter 10) - Wed 30 Jun 2010
OH NO...did she knock him out with shampoo....Mwahahahaha!
Oh how perfect. Some days life just seems to be dealing you the best of experiences, only to be so rudely interrupted...
I loved the interaction with the baby. The baby must have sensed Kagome's fear and tension over his reactions to being with a stranger and when Sesshoumaru took him, he felt Sesshoumaru's confidence and was finally able to calm down. Either that or he just liked Sessh more than he did Kagome...but either way, it was still cute. Just as cute as Sesshoumaru being compared to a long white mushroom. Little ones don't lie, they tell it as they see it and I think I laughed as much as Kagome.
I was amazed with how easily Kagome slipped into her role as okami. She seems as though she was a natural born people person. The way she brought Sesshoumaru into the conversations without putting him on the spot, so to speak, was genius. She just created a walking, talking promotion for the ryokan just by being Kagome! Being raised at the shrine helped alot, as I remember her telling Sesshoumaru some of the dutis she performed there for her mother and grandfather.
Now, after the day was all done, one tiny little mishap... Wait until Kagome finds out that Sesshoumaru's reactions are because he's as embarassed as she is and just freezes because of it and it's not that he's a pervert. His retort in his defense was quite juvenile but then I'm sure at that time he just wanted to hurt her for calling him a pervert without allowing him to explain what actually happened. It's really quite amusing. They're reacting like two young teens on the verge of puberty. JEN
Saide (Chapter 10) - Wed 30 Jun 2010
LOOOOOL
That is one heck of a crazy bath! No nosebleeds from Sesshomaru yet I see? >D I could imagine him getting red as a beet in his complexion~
I'm now wondering what's going to happen next... >D
Of course the baby would like him. Lil kids always head straight for the last person who wants anything to do with them. I have lots of experience with that one. Everytime I get a table with kids, I cringe. But seriously, that's what you get for daydreaming...he had to insult her didn't he? It's no wonder she knocked him out.
lol love the last scene.
Sala (Chapter 10) - Tue 29 Jun 2010
Ouch. Probably not the shouting match that they really needed to have over-heard by their first customers...
Karen (Chapter 9) - Tue 29 Jun 2010
Miss Teak,
I really do enjoy reading this story. I hope that you don't take too long to update. You are a very talented author. I have read more than one of your stories and I feel that you tell a story well and with detail. Thank you. Karen.
Damn child...probably why I don't have any kids or want any for that matter. I like my peace and quiet. I am so happy to see Sess opening up and actually having fun. Keep prodding, eventually he's got to break.
I dont know how I managed to pass up this cute little story until now! Very sweet. I will definitely be keeping a look-out for the next installment ;)
REDWOLF (Chapter 9) - Mon 28 Jun 2010
WOW...Sesshoumaru is alive, finally ~.*
OMG!!!!!!! They were so..... close. Darn that baby crying. Darn. Darn. Darn. Update Soon!!!!
"he had never done them before" ??? Am I getting this right? He's never had an encounter with a woman before? Oh, now that would be so sweet... I loved this chapter! JEN
So sorry for not being here to R&R but as life for me goes, I've pretty much slept 4 days away. Some may wish they had the luxury, but I, I wish I could live a normal, healthy life I once did before all this.
Anyway, THIS was an amazing chapter. I am really enjoying the interaction between Sesshoumaru and Kagome. It seems he's got alot of trust issues and with how guarded and cynical he is, it seems it's not without reason. To others, he's an impossibly unfriendly and unlikable, but as the story goes on we see there is more than meets the eye to this man.
I am, however, totally enjoying all the background story in this. You are doing an amazing job weaving fact with fiction and seeing as you have such a broad knowledge of the culture and have actually been there, it makes this all that more interesting to read and become engrossed in. So many writers write their stories as if Japan is the same as the United States, not knowing that they are two very different places and customs. Though Japan has adopted alot of American culture and it's language, there is still so much that's different and this is part of what makes your stories so interesting, you know what you are writing about because you've had first hand knowledge. JEN
Oooh, what a nice start to my day! That WAS sweet and fluffy! I just knew Kagome would be great with the customers, but I hadn't even hoped for such progress with Sesshomaru. Their fight with the carrot and radish and wasabi root was so perfect! And then their near kiss was heart-stopping. I am enjoying this simple story sooooo much!
