The Defeat of Naraku.
Hello and welcome to my first story here. I hope you enjoy reading it. It takes a few chapters to get into the swing of things.
I don't own Inuyasha.
Chapter 1: the defeat of Naraku.
Kagome shot an arrow towards naraku. Shouting for it to hit the mark as it blazed a pink trail towards him, his attempts to block it with his tentacles and arms being purified.
The arrow hit its mark.
Naraku screamed as he felt his body being purified, His power being nullified by the purity and the jewel being torn from his control. Kagome would never forget the hate in his eyes as he looked at her, into her, with such hate as his body disintegrated to nothing.
When he was only dust she could still feel his hate.
She stood still for a moment looking at the now empty space where Naraku last stood, when she heard the shouts of her friends she snapped out of her daze and slowly walked over to the purified jewel. She picked it up and united it with her own part to complete the jewel.
In her palm it seemed so small and insignificant, a bauble that had brought war and death across the country, with a grim amusement she realised how her dainty, shaky hands could so easily hold such a powerful item and how wrong it was that this bauble was allowed to still exist.
After these thoughts she knew what she had to do. the jewel could not exist anymore. she would see its end even if it meant her own.
Sango, miroku, Inuyasha and shippo all approached her excited but tired from battle. Somehow no one was seriously injured. Miroku and sango had some minor cuts and inuyasha had a large gash across his chest but seemed fine to ignore it for the moment. Sesshoumaru had also helped with the battle but kept his distance now, his robes were still in pristine condition.
"Kagome! We did it!" shouted shippo the only one that seemed to have any energy left. His job had been to fetch Kagome's arrows from the battlefield so she would not run out.
"Yes we did it." She replied with a soft smile watching her would be son.
"What do you plan to do with the jewel now lady kagome?" Miroku asked looking at kagome's now clasped hands containing the jewel.
"I'm going to wish it away." she said opening her hands and showing everyone the bright pink stone. "I dont know what will happen, but i feel it must be done." She gave a sad smile to everyone as she looked from friend to friend. Inuyasha had his arms crossed and a frown on his face but otherwise did not protest. "Here goes nothing."
Kagome closed her eyes and wished silently for the jewel to be gone forever. The pink light of her power surrounded her and her friends stepped back. She could feel the jewel in her hand respond and suddenly it was like there was a thousand people in her head, all trying to talk over each other. She couldn't make out what they were trying to say there was too much noise. In her minds eye she could see every being that was inside the jewel she tried to concentrate on just one voice, she spotted midoriko and focused on trying to hear just her.
"Such a power cannot just cease to exist." midoriko said. "All these demons are trying to tell you that in their own way. There is one way to be rid of the jewel however".
"How?" Kagome asked eager to stop the invasion of her mind.
"As it was formed, so it can be destroyed." Midoriko said slowly.
It took a moment to understand her words but when kagome did the implications were enormous, she must absorb the jewel itself into all of her. Her soul, her conscience, her life force, her powers, everything would be shared with the jewel. "So it shall be." She said.
The voices in her head stopped. For a moment she thought everything was over, then the pain began. As if she was being ripped apart and re-assembled a thousand times she could sense the voices coming together, becoming part of her, her soul, her power changing in a way she could not describe but she could feel.
Her friends watched on as she was surrounded by her power and the pink light grew brighter until they had to look away and shield their eyes. The light suddenly faded after a moment and everything was quiet. Too quiet. Kagome lay in a heap on the ground eyes open but unseeing. Miroku could no longer feel her powers or sense her aura. He was the first to approach slowly and put his hand in front of her parted lips.
"I can feel her breath. She lives". He said with relief moving to roll her onto her back.
Sango looked on the verge of tears and muttered her relief coming close and waving her hand if front of her friends eyes. "Kagome? Kagome can you see me? Are you ok?" she asked in a gentle voice.
Kagome blinked slowly and continued to stare at the sky, ignoring both miroku and Sango.
"We should get her to kaede. She might know what to do." Inuyasha said his brows furrowed in a mix of worry and confusion. His chest was still bleeding, Kaede would have to bandage it too.
They Carried Kagome from the battlefield the short distance to the village of Edo. About an hours walk. Sango and Miroku worked together to carry her. Inuyasha was beginning to lose too much blood to be much help and shippo was still to small.
In Kaede's hut Inuyasha was bandaged first. Then the old miko moved on to Kagome, examining her for any physical injuries and finding none of concern. Her head was uninjured so she could offer up no explanation for the behavior other than the will of the jewel. Kaede closed kagome's open but unseeing eyes and suggested they go to bed as it was now evening. The group begrudgingly agreed and fell into a deep sleep.
Kagome reopened her eyes in the middle of the night. She had had a lot to process. A thousand consciousnesses were now a part of her own. She could remember each demons memories as if they were her own, and in a way they were now. She could also feel the change in her powers, they were more potent and she could tell her purity was untainted, although she was no longer an entirely pure being.
She sat up slowly and looked around, it was the middle of the night, everyone was sleeping deeply. She slowly made her way to the door. She needed to go for a walk and think about what happened.
Sesshoumaru approached her shortly after she had started her walk.
"Miko. Your presence has changed."
"Huh?" Kagome looked towards Sesshoumaru. "How so?"
"What has happened to your body with the disappearance of the jewel?"
"Oh, umm..." She trailed off looking at the sky. "I don't know how to explain it, but the jewel and I are the same thing now."
"Hn." Sesshoumaru tilted his head slightly to the side debating her answer. "Our deal still stands."
"Thanks. Thats a load off my shoulders. I can feel the well calling me to go home. I should really get going." She said now looking at the ground frowning. Her feet were in a pair of worn sandals and her clothing was the same miko garbs she had worn into battle this morning.
She looked towards Sesshoumaru, he had been a great help in defeating Naraku and with his continued help she could hopefully ensure demons survived until the future. None of her friends knew of their deal. She had told sesshoumaru that there were no demons in her time and together they had come up with a plan to help demons survive and hide. If all went well he would be waiting for her to return in her time, finish school, and then she would forever belong to the west.
---
Kagome had sought Sesshoumaru out when he had been traveling close to her own group. She had demanded that he hear her out and stated she was from the future. Sensing no lie this had piqued his curiosity and Sesshoumaru decided to allow her to speak her mind. They had talked at length about the future and what it would mean for demons. Of course they discussed the possibility that the future would change with her actions but had decided it safest to assume most events would be the same and if a significant change in history occurred he would continue with what he deemed the best course of action. Of course Kagome did the majority of the talking but not all of it.
Under the guise of rin being ill kagome had traveled to the palace of the west alone and they had worked to write a contract and discuss a suitable course of action. Kagome had done research into everything she thought would help demons sucede in her time and written it into a book. She included information on alliances, policies, economics, wars, famines, disease, and gave her suggestions on what to do in each case. Her hope was that with this book Sesshoumaru could make informed decisions and avoid catastrophe.
Sesshoumaru had been suitably impressed with her research and penmanship. She was surprisingly well spoken and was good at having logical arguments. He had made her an advisor and introduced her to his court. She was officially part of the ruling body of the west and thus her words would be taken seriously and his other advisors would not think he had lost his mind introducing strange policies in the future. She had argued with his other advisors for nearly a week straight. He had not seen anything as amusing as the little miko talking down to centuries old advisors about fiscal policy and winning all her arguments. She had left no more room for them to argue and moved on to the policies they were to put in place in the future, 100, 200, 300 years or more some of the plans she had outlined would remain on the table before being put in place at the right time.
His advisors had hated her but could not challenge her wit and he would allow her no physical harm.
The part he did not like about the deal is that he would have to work with mikos and priests to conceal their powers and ensure that they did not kill off all demons. They could not foresee another reason that demons could go extinct besides being hunted by holy beings.

Kagome shook herself out of her thoughts and began to walk back towards kaede's hut.
In the morning she said her goodbyes to her friends and jumped down the well, hopefully to a demon inhabited future.
