Sesshomaru finds Kagome crying at the top of a cliff after she saw Inuyasha with Kikyo declaring his love. Song: There Comes a Time by Celine Dion

WARNING: Sesshomaru is a bit out of character in this

“Kikyo I love you, and only you. I couldn’t love anyone else. Your copy was needed for the jewel shards.” Inuyasha’s words echoed through Sesshomaru’s head. He knew the little Miko, Kagome had heard as well as the scent of her tears filled the air with an unpleasant sea like smell. Deciding that seeing that the miko was more important than ripping his disgraced brother to shreds he followed her.

With beautiful grace and beauty, the demon lord flew through the air towards a steep cliff where Kagome had ran to in her moment of grief. Sesshomaru hoped he could stop her from jumping off. That is if she planned on jumping off; Humans had a tendency to do stupid and regretful things in moments of weakness. THAT is the true reason Sesshomaru disliked the human race, they never could control their actions in high emotional states.  

Stopping at the edge of some trees Sesshomaru observed the crying miko. She looked so…weak and helpless, like a pup. The urge to rip Inuyasha up came back full force however, Sesshomaru resisted it. He longed to go to the miko and hold her, to support her, care for her.

After five long years of hunting the accursed jewel, the pain Naraku had brought to them and the loss of the miko’s home. For the last two years Sesshomaru noticed the miko struggling to raise the Kit and Rin whilst dealing with the demands of being the new miko of Edo. A challenge for anyone who was not trained throughout their life to take the burden. But Kagome sucked it all in and tried her hardest. Rin often told him of times where her new mother figure crying at night, wanting something the villagers forebode her from having. A husband.

Why the humans kept such a caring creature from finding a male was beyond the great demon lord. Miko’s didn’t lose their power after their first rut, they lost it when they broke sacred laws manly killing an innocent or truning their back on the kamis. Finding love and having children was not against those laws. It was prophesised that it helped a miko gain more power, but Sesshomaru had yet to see that.

The more Sesshomaru thought about it the more he wanted to take the miko away from such an underserving place to his home where she would be protected and cherished along with Rin and the Kit. Where he could help her become the vibrant girl she used to be. he wanted to shelter her from the harsh world she found herself in.

Making up his mind Sesshomaru walked silently to the crying girl before him. He listened as she sobbed, his resolve hardening. Kagome looked up at the figure who came towards her. Her chocolate brown eyes wide with pain, fear and sorrow. Huge tears fell down her cheeks making her look small and lost. Saying nothing Sesshomaru gently pulled Kagome into his arms and he purred rucking her slowly.

“You will come with me miko Kagome. To my home where you will be free from the pain you feel, where Rin and Shippo can play free without judging eyes. Where I will help you carry the burdens of this life. Where you don’t have to be strong to please others, where your love is wanted no, needed.” Sesshomaru whispered in Kagome’s ear. She nodded in response.

Kagome buried her head into Sesshomaru’s tail, she had had enough. Inuyasha told her he returned her love, that she was the only one for him. Lies. The villagers threw Kagome into the miko position telling her that it was her duty to protect and care for the village, never to marry, never to have children. To stay pure until she died like Kaede. However they didn’t treat her like they treated the old miko; Kagome was treated like dirt, when they needed her they came to her other than that they avoided her like the plague. Shippo and Rin getting dirty looks from the other people in their village. Sango and Miroku had moved away saying they needed to restart the Slayers Village, she hadn’t heard from them once. She felt abandoned. So she willingly went with Sesshomaru, he couldn’t treat her any worse than the people who claimed to care for her did. Even if he decided to treat her like a slave.

Inuyasha rushed through the forest, He knew Kagome heard what he said to Kikyo and he didn’t care. However she was needed at the village so he had to drag her back. She was their Miko. She had a duty to protect them. He came to the point where her scent was strongest but so was his hated half-brothers. He burst through the trees in time to see Sesshomaru fly up and over the forest towards the village with Kagome in his arms. Inuyasha also saw the look of triumph in his brother’s eyes.

Heading towards the village to collect his new charges, Sesshomaru smirked at the look of pure horror on the half-breeds face. Inuyasha knew Kagome was not going to stay at the village. They had now lost their miko to the most feared Demon in Nippon. 

Sesshomaru knew that the second he landed in that village all hell will break loose and those pitiful fools would try and kill him, so they could keep the little miko in his arms. But he could not care less. He was now her protector, maybe one day his lover or mate. He knew he would stay by her side until she departed from this world. Until then he would give his life, for her and her only.
