Inside the Looking Glass
The sun, in all its warm glory, flickered down into the forests of western Japan. It shone the brightest in a small clearing, the top of which was unimpeded by the branches of the tall trees. In that small clearing, a small, motley group was assembled, four of which were sitting upon a log watching the other two members of their group argue. It was a scene often repeated for them, though this argument was one of the few that they were actually concerned for the well-being of the more fragile of them.
"..Miroku, this is getting out of hand. We should step in." A young woman addressed her companion. She rested a hand upon her weapon, a giant boomerang made of weathered demon bones. Her companion, called Miroku, turned his gaze to the young woman, shaking his head sadly.
"It would not stop them from fighting, Sango-sama." His voice softened, his hand coming to rest on his companion's shoulder. Sango stiffened slightly, looking to him with soulful brown eyes, "I don't know how much more of this I can take..." Her gaze returned to the couple fighting not 50 feet away from the group huddled upon the log.
"..Why is that my problem, Kagome?!? I don't give a fuck if yer mother's sick. Be glad you have her around...Stupid!" An irate voice sounded out loudly. The voice belonged to a half-demon named Inuyasha. The woman he was yelling out gasped out loud.
"Inuyasha...How could...how could you say that?" Kagome looked to him, shock written on her delicate features. Over the three years that they had been tracking the jewel shards and Naraku, the young time-traveler had matured into a lovely young adult of 18. Her expression turned to that of anger and sorrow, "...You know what. I don't give a damn what you say. I'm going home to check on her. And that's final." She turned and stomped away but not before being held back by her companion's reply.
"Ya ain't going anywhere, bitch." Inuyasha cussed outwardly as he leapt in front of the retreating priestess, crossing his arms stubbornly. A vein in Kagome's forehead pulsed and she stepped back from the half-breed.
"Inuyasha..." Her voice shone with a promised punishment, of which Inuyasha was very familiar with. Said half-breed's triangular ears lowered into his thick hair but he tried to stave off the inevitable, "You wouldn't dare!"
"Sit!!" Kagome's voice rang loud and true. WHAM! Into the hard ground went a disgruntled Inuyasha and off stalked an exasperated Kagome. Winding herself around to walk backwards, she waved a hearty but cheerless goodbye to the rest of the group, little knowing that this trip home would change her life forever.
One more A/N: I'm making an attempt to create an atmosphere of a light nature...but with dark undertones.
