The Unexpected by Kira

Change

She was a normal girl, one that loved to be free and kind hearted. She had a hard time with this, with the picture she now saw before her. It was Inuyasha, he was in the arms of Kikyo. She stood there, barely breathing, hiding herself behind a tree. She watched silently, as Inuyasha and Kikyo leaned into a kiss. She wanted to cry out, but she just couldn't. The words were stuck in her throat, and silent tears ran down her cheeks. This is the last time Inuyasha... she thought. She felt somehow strange, standing there watching this love scene play out in front of her. She knew she didn't belong. Kagome walked silently away, not saying anything, for that was the last time she planned on seeing the half-demon...at least for a long while. Kagome began to trudge back to camp, her heart had been torn to pieces, and she fought back her tears. Her back went ridged all of a sudden, she knew someone was there, watching her. "Who's there!?"

An old woman appeared in front of Kagome, about ten feet away. She was short in hieght, and seemed old in age...somewhat like Kaede. She wore a deep blue Kimono with red flower print on it, and it was torn in places. "Dear child, can you help an old woman like me...?" She smiled a little at Kagome.

Kagome knew she couldn't just leave this woman by herself, not when there were demons that could easily slaughter her. She walked gracefully over to the old woman, and helped the old woman. She mended her clothes and gave her food and water. "What are you doing out here? It's dangerous."

"Not for me really. Let's just say I had an unexpected surprise," the old woman laughed a little bit, then looked at the human girl before her. "You are the one that should not be out here alone."

She looked into the old woman's eyes. For some reason, she just wanted to tell the woman everything, to have comfort in someone understanding how she felt. "I was hurt by someone I thought I loved. I wish I could leave, but I'm not strong enough to go out on my own...though I wish I could." Tears began to fall down her cheeks yet again. She wiped them off with the sleeve of her school uniform, and sadly smiled at the old woman.

She stared at the young girl for a while, then she decided she should at least try to help the girl. "Tell me child, what kind of power is it that you wish? For power can be in many forms."

She peered at the old woman. What kind of power do I want? she asked herself. "I want to be strong, like a demon...maybe even be a demon. I also want to learn how to fully harness my priestess capabilities."

"That is all very well. Now tell me, is there any demon you know that has such a power that you might want?" The old woman asked...she had to know just how strong the girl at least wanted to be. She couldn't send her away without knowing just how powerful the girl wanted to be. That, and curiousity began to sink in.

Kagome coudn't think of any demon she knew that she could compare the power to. Wait a minute...there is... "Do you know of Sesshomaru? I wish to be as powerful as he is." She then thought of what it would really be like, to be as powerful as Sesshomaru was. She then thought of what he really was like, he was so different from how he used to be. He was actually becoming nicer, for one, he wasn't trying to kill Inuyasha. That and that cute little girl, Rin, that seemed to adore him. She smiled at the thought, all her sadness had vanished with that one thought.

The old woman knew what the girl named Kagome wanted now. "As you wish, my child. I bless you!" Just then, a bright light surrounded the old woman, transforming her into a beautiful looking demon, long black hair and redish colored eyes that shone brightly. Her figure grew tall and thin, she was a little taller than Kagome now. She then held her hands together, an orb of light forming, getting bigger as her hands seperated farther and farther apart. When the ball of energy was about the size of a basketball, the woman threw it at Kagome. When it hit Kagome, the girl was engulfed in light, and the woman disappeared.

Inuyasha knew Kagome had seen him with Kikyo, he could smell her the entire time. It killed him inside to do this to Kagome, for he did love her. But he was a demon, and a demon sticks by his word, no matter how much it hurts them. He had promised Kikyo his life. He couldn't go back on his word. Kagome, I'll always be there for you he thought. A tear made its way down his cheek, and fell onto Kikyo's shoulder. He felt so awful, having Kagome catch him this way. He had planned on telling her, that way she couldn't run away this time. He opened his eyes as he continued to kiss Kikyo. Are you really worth all this Kikyo? You are dead, and no heart do you truely possess...not even your soul. Where is the Kikyo I knew so long ago?

Kikyo could sence a change in Inuyasha. She broke the kiss, but only backed away enough to look into his eyes. "Inuyasha, is it my reincarnation that is on your mind?" She couldn't help but ask. She had been jealous of the girl, which had her soul and power, and also had the heart of the half-demon she loved, and yet seemed to hate. She looked into his eyes, the way he looked back at her, she knew the answer already. She frowned as she took it all in. Inuyasha, you love her.

Inuyasha knew Kikyo understood what was on his mind, but he could only smile at her. "Kikyo, I promised you my life, and it will always be yours." He knew that was the right choice. Kagome deserved more than him. He couldn't fully love her, not with Kikyo in his memory. He knew Kagome would be sad of course, but he had to do this...It is my gift to you Kagome... He looked down at Kikyo, with a new, loving face that he had only given her and Kagome. He placed a clawed hand on Kikyo's cheek, and felt the coldness of it. He genlty leans forward towards Kikyo, and places a chaste kiss on her lips.
