The tale of the blind by Suburban Thrills
Blind Dates and Burger Joints
I never really noticed how artistic street lights could be until right now. It's a pretty pointless thought, but there's nothing really to think about when you're on the road. Well I suppose I could talk about what I was exactly driving back from.
The woman from Hell.
Does that explain anything at all? No? I'll further elaborate. A friend (I am rethinking just how good of a friend he really is) decided that I was in need of a companion. He said I was "turning into a bitter old man at 25". So, he took it upon himself to set me up with one of his lady friends. "It couldn't be all that bad" I thought to myself.
Wrong.
Let me tell you...this woman gave a whole new meaning to the term "Blind Date". Never in my life had I actually wanted to be blind more than that moment. When I picked her up, the bright red of her dress burned my eyes so I couldn't even look at her for a full minute. She stank of some over applied perfume and her voice was grating against my nerves. I was sick of her before we even got to the restaurant.
Now being the gentleman I was, I still opened her door, pulled out her chair, and made polite conversation. But the blasted woman had the audacity to make moves on me. She made it blatantly clear that she wanted more than just light kissing or holding hands. She wanted to "kiss and hold" more intimate parts of my person.
Check please.
And here I am now, still hungry (my appetite seemed to have disappeared before for some odd reason) and contemplating damn streetlights. What a wonderful life, oh yes indeed. Sighing, I pulled off the road into a diner I passed by everyday to and from work. I'm not one for fast foods, but a grease ridden burger was all I wanted right then.
I walked into the empty diner and sat myself down in a booth, silently contemplating why no one was there. Then I remembered that it was nearly one in the morning. The waitress came and took my order (a cheeseburger with everything no onions and an order of fries) and made her way back to the cook.
Suddenly, I heard the door open. Turning my head back, I saw a woman dressed in flannel pajama pants and a hooded sweatshirt enter. She paused for a second and smiled for some reason before she walked down and sat in the booth in front of mine, sitting in the side facing me. The same waitress who took my order appeared at her side and smiled at her fondly. They had a brief conversation before she went back with the order. A few minutes later, the waitress came with my burger and fries and a coke.
Oh, the artery clogging goodness.
I was engrossed with the task of eating when I finally realized that the woman in the flannel pajamas was staring at me with a faint smile on her face. I gave her a glare, but she didn't even flinch let alone look away. Ignoring her, I returned to eating my burger. When I was finished, I couldn't help but release a content sigh and close my eyes.
What? It was a damn good burger.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw the woman was still staring at me. I've had woman stare at me before, but not like this. Irritated, I got up and sat at the opposite end of her table.
"It's known to be rude to stare, you know." I said to her, coldly.
She blinked for a few moments.
"Oh. Oh I'm so sorry. I was doing it again. I can't really help it." She said in a soft voice.
"You've really got some nerve. Don't you have the decency to be discreet about it? Or are you simply too incompetent? Yes, that must be it." Okay, I admit I was a little harsh. It was a bad, bad night.
She blinked again before looking straight at me. "I told you I was sorry. If you hadn't noticed, I really can't help it considering I am physically handicapped."
I looked at her. There seemed to be nothing wrong with her. Judging by earlier, she walked just fine and she didn't seem to be deformed in any place. Then, I finally noticed that her eyes were just a little off color and looking not at me, but rather past me.
"You're...blind."
She smiled at him and nodded.
This is kind of short and a tad boring, but it will get better as it the story progresses. I hope you all enjoy this and what is to come.
Please review. Constructive criticism is welcomed.
