Dreaming Insomniac

Prologue: Normal Day

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As she sat in the dark abyss of her living room a small fraction of herself realized it had been the third night she hadn't slept. Perhaps she just wasn't tired or maybe she was truly thinking too hard. Haunted by daydreams of love, friendship, and being someone of importance. She took a sip of her warm milk and glanced around the room, it was all dark except for the light that came through her blinds and of course the annoying VCR light. The house was pleasantly quiet all you could hear was the ticking of the wall clock. Speaking of clock she glanced its way.
5:35.
'I guess warm milk doesn't put you to sleep' she thought sadistically placing a smirk upon her face.
She took one last sip of her milk and made to lie on the couch but thought better of it when her cat growled. The sun was irritably rising giving the room a greyish quality, it would soon be a normal day.
A yawn escaped from her mouth as she laid her head back hoping...no... praying sleep would ensnare her for just one night.
'I do have a test tomorrow' she pointed out as her mind took on a different direction.
School wasn't necessarily so bad, she wasn't popular nor was she a loser, the few friends she had were true friends, but there was always that itch of envy in the back of her mind. "What would it be like to be popular?". Maybe people didn't like her because she didn't like herself, she looked down realizing she must have gained ten or so pounds. Her thoughts lightened a bit.
'I should make a list of things to improve myself' she pondered happily. 'Lets see' tapping her figure to her chin ' I could jog, join a club, go out and meet new people'
Not a second later doubt settled in. 'Like you could possibly ever stick with it, you hate clubs, what makes you think people will care about you then when they don't now?'. She huffed out a sigh and dared to
glance at the clock.
5:40.
More thoughts swarmed into her mind that she attempted to block out but failed miserably.
'Maybe I'm going insane...' another worry stitched into her brain 'What do normal people think about before they sleep?'
The question hung in the air, her thoughts were always daydreams before sleep, she laughed at her own oxymoron. Maybe if she knew what other people thought it would cle--
"Kagome" a voice whispered breaking her musing.
She glanced towards the door "Yes Souta" she said "Did you have another nightmare?"
He nodded and she rose to accompany him to his room.
She often slept, well more like stayed, with him. He had been getting nightmares since he was six. Probably something to do with the death of their Father.
"Kagome"
"Hmm" she stared down at him.
"What was Dad like?" he said softly
He would always ask this question when he had a nightmare for some reason he couldn't remember him very well. "Well he worked as a repair man in a newspaper press, he loved to eat sweets and sneak us scary movies. He had sandy brown hair like yours and huge blue eyes."
"Blue eyes like yours?'
Kagome nodded and watched as he fell fast asleep, she ruffled his hair and gave him an envious look remembering what it was like to sleep without a care. Her eyes faintly closed into a half asleep state. She remembered the day there Dad had died. It was four years ago, she was twelve and Souta was six, he was working a night shift. There was an equipment malfunction and he went to climb up to fix it, some idiot turned on the machine and he slipped and fell thirty feet to his death. He died instantly, nothing had been the same since.... Her mind went silent only to be kicked by her brother in his sleep. She gave a pitiful sigh and checked out the evil hell spawn of a clock.
6:34
'I suppose I could take a shower' she got up, careful not to disturb her brother, and left for the early morning shower to start her early morning day.
After her screeching hot shower she hit the books for her history test. She really didn't need to study she new she would ace it. That's the problem with being smart and an insomniac you can't spend your time studying when you don't need to. Her alarm went off, not that she needed it, and she closed her books and started to get dressed into her uniform which was just a green mock sailor suit, she could already hear her mother cooking breakfast.
"Morning Mom"
"Good morning Kagome, did you sleep ok?"
She stretched and replied "Not very good".
Her mother gave her a look of concern and served her breakfast. "Maybe you should go to the doctors sweetie"
"No.. It's alright" she said chewing on some bacon. Her mother always worried to much.
"Alright but if it gets any worst you will go see a doctor" she never did see a doctor.
"Demons Demons everywhere catch them, trap them, curse them, to their underwear."
Kagome spared a dry look to her grandpa who was probably crazier then she would ever be. The old man was reaching seventy five and would probably be around till he was hundred and ten. He was, more like acted, as the shrine keeper for the shrine they lived on. His time was spent chasing around demons and selling off merchandise. It was a sad life he lived, but he seemed to enjoy it.
"Morning Grandpa"
A yawn was heard from up the stairs.
"Good morning Souta"
"Morning mom"
Kagome glanced at her watch.
8:01
"Well I'm going to go bye Mom bye Souta" she got up gathered her books and left the house into her normal day.
Approximately forty five blocks and two streets down into the more town area, but in the same district. Sesshomaru was just rising from one of the best sleeps he had ever acquired. He gave a huge yawn as rouse from his bed, he sauntered over with morning grace to his own bathroom and turned on the shower to what he was sure would be a most pleasing day.
The warm drops of the shower cascaded down the silkiness of his white hair. A huge crash was heard following that was a line of profound curses. Sesshomaru reluctantly opened one of his golden eyes and gave a huge sigh. 'Fowl brother' he spared his half brother a thought and turned off the shower.
He slipped his school uniform on (over his perfectly toned body) which consisted of black pants, white button up dress shirt and black over coat. He combed his long mane and walked down stairs to the humming of his stepmother and the scowling of his half brother.
"Good morning Sesshomaru" her voice dripping with serenity. God how he despised this women.
He spared her a look and seated himself to eat his breakfast. His half brother was woofing down his breakfast much like a pig or a hog and suddenly... Sesshomaru wasn't very hungry.
"Must you eat like a barn yard animal Inuyasha?" Sesshomaru mocked with a smirk. Oh how he enjoyed irritating the fool.
There was a piggish snort and a evil glare from Inuyasha's own golden eyes. "Feh takes one to know one."
"Nice come back" Sesshomaru said dripping with sarcasm.
He ignored his brothers "feh" sound as his father walked in with the newspaper to sit down and read it.
Touga Taisho was a well known businessman in western Japan, he owned Taisho Enterprises which was one of the worlds most leading companies. He had the same white hair, which he had passed down to both sons, along with his very golden humble eyes.
Touga gave Sesshomaru a glance and very Inuyasha looking smile "Good Morning Sesshomaru" there was a slight tension between the two though it wasn't foreign at all. It had been that way since Sesshomaru's mother had died. Sesshomaru carried much resentment.
Sesshomaru grunted and soundlessly got up grabbed his books and walked out into his normal day.
