She was walking along the pathway that lead to a very calm and peaceful stream. She had learned from Kaede some new masking spells and new barriers. She felt it was time to go on her own for a change and try out her newly developed skills. Possibly on some unsuspecting demon. She was very far away from the camp. Inuyasha and the others were fast asleep. She had to be careful, she knew that much. They were now in the Western Lands and Inuyasha was already on edge over being in his brothers lands. Kagome waited until night fell, she had been practicing for weeks on pretending she was asleep to trick the hanyou into believing she was really was asleep, breathing in and out with the slowest of sleep like breaths. He seemed to be buying it after the last week. And so Kagome decided on this cool breezy evening that she would attempt the feat. She swore to be strong. She wasn't trying to get into any trouble, she just wanted to feel, well. Useful. Inuyasha was always complaining about how worthless she was, and no matter how much the baka didn't mean it, it still stung, and after hearing him say it after 3 years she felt as if it really were true. And with more determined strides she continued on. Tears slowly fell from her cheeks as she thought of all the years she had spent with him. No advances in the relationship. She knew he was continuing to see Kikyou. She understood why. Like her promise to him, he had kept a promise to Kikyou and he wasn't about to go back on his word. No matter that she was already technically dead, merely a literal shell of the former Miko. Never could they make a promise to each other. Never could they forget their duties and their responsibilities. Cast it all aside and feel only for each other. Only her wildest dreams woulf that come true.
Kagome looked up into the night sky. The stars lit the sky in spectacular show against the shimmering full moon. She wiped the tears away. Struggling to grasp the real reason she was out here in the first place.
"Focus Kagome, this is only to make you stronger." She thought as she held tighter to her bow.
She walked stealthily across the path, directing her towards the peaceful stream, she had come upon it when they stopped there for a rest. She thought it to be a very beautiful and peaceful setting for her practices. She knew Inuyasha would never let her practice alone, or at all really, considering every time she asked in the past he had shunned the idea, proclaiming all she needed was him to protect her. Baka. She felt trapped with him. She didn't even feel the same way she did when she first started out on this journey. Foolish puppy love she deemed it now. She was not out of love for him. She just wasn't in love with him like she was before, it was more like a love of companionship. When she started to think about it, she knew the only thing keeping her was her promise to him. And that was slowly fading as the jewel was close to finished. She thought about the end. What might become of her? She didn't honestly care. She sort of hoped that after all of it was over she might possibly be lucky enough to wake up 3 years previous and never fall into the well. She was even willing to keep the memories. As long as she didn't have to be here anymore. It was killing her life back at home. A young high school student. No room for dreams of college. She was lucky she made it as far as she had. She wondered why she gave so much, with little in return. Perhaps it was time. Whether anything did happen after the jewel was complete. Kagome promised herself that after all was said and done. Whatever wish Inuyasha decided to make. She would go home. And seal the well. It was about time she started to make a promise for herself.
Kagome began to mask her aura first. She felt the magic surround her body and close in, but the feeling was like a silk scarf running across her skin. It moved and shimmered in her vision. The pinkish hue of the aura that surrounded her slowly closed in and completely disappeared from view. She smiled with success in her mind. It looked as if she had done it. She walked around the stream. She frowned knowing that she couldn't possibly be sure unless she happened upon a demon.
"Where are they when you need them?" She thought.
As soon as the words ran across her mind something caught her eye. A flash before her. She wavered slightly on her concentration with her masking. She cursed herself for being so clumsy but she also acknowledged that this might be a good idea. So she decided to investigate the noise and the white flash she had seen just seconds ago. Before she walked in the direction it went flying off to she decided to create a barrier in case it was a far more dangerous demon or creature then she was normally capable of handling. She followed the faint moonlit path to a open area. The stream emptied into a large pond full of lotus flowers covering the top. The moonlight caressed each flowers petal with an ethereal glow. The whole area seemed to be alive yet not. Kagome couldn't grasp the nature of this place. The entire area seemed ethereal in its foreign beauty. She stepped closer to the pond. That is when she noticed the white flash. It was someone. It looked to be a male. He was kneeling beside what looked to be a grave. The moonlight cast shadows over the male and the name on the marker. The marker was quite detailed yet she couldn't make out the scripture. Flowers grew wildly and freely around the grave site It was a very beautiful thing to behold. Kagome caught her breath when she heard the male quietly rustle. She watched as he gently placed a bouquet of Tsubaki's below the stone marker. The gentle breeze caused the clouds to clear away the shadows hiding the grave and the male. And Kagome could not help the gasp as she watched the hand retract from the grave. She noticed the magenta stripes upon his wrists. It told her exactly whom she was watching. She shuddered in the knowledge.
"Great, of all the demons to "practice" on." She thought.
Kagome was determined to turn right around and walk away from something that seemed sacred, why was she even here? She never meant to intrude on anyone paying respects to the departed. She felt uncomfortable, she was ready to bolt but something stopped her dead in her tracks. It was a sound. A sound she never thought she would hear. Not coming from this demon. Not him. Her assumptions were confirmed as she caught the glimmer and shine of a single tear fall from the great InuYoukai. She knew she should leave, every logical thought in her head told her to leave right this moment. But something was keeping her here, frozen in her stance. Her heart. It was screaming for her to stay. She watched as he placed one hand on is knee and the other laid against his lowered head. He looked so solemn and vulnerable at that moment. She couldn't stop herself from moving forward. She felt her feet move of their own accord. She knew it was dangerous, but she continued, right until she stood beside him.
Kagome couldn't help the feeling inside her. She so desperately wanted to be there for him. The more logical side screamed at her foolishness. What was she thinking? This demon will kill you!!!! He won't think twice about slicing you in half! Her mind thought frantically. Attempting to place images of her death in her mind. It didn't work, she shoved them aside, determined to feel her heart this time. She didn't really care about the repercussions. She knew he might shun her and kill her, but she also know he was vulnerable, and there was this small hope inside her, that he might be accepting, just this once. No matter how foolish it seemed. She was going to do this. Her body and soul seemed to move on without her logical side's agreement. As if it knew exactly what to do.
Kagome walked towards him. She slowly released her barrier. No fright in her eyes as she watched him quickly snap to attention. Golden fiery embers met blue oceans of understanding. She tried to convey it all in her eyes. She didn't want him to feel alone. She understood completely what he was feeling. His eyes grew large and shock ran through them in a flash, but was quickly replaced with the cold harshness of anger. He straightened his back. Kagome knelt before him. She bled her aura out into the cool night air. Her eyes never left his gaze. She watched the many emotions flicker in his own, he seemed angry and confused, yet interested at the same time. Kagome said nothing. She merely smiled at him. He tilted his head, and his hand came up to grasp her throat. She responded with catching it in mid grasp. She handled his wrist as if it were nothing. As if her strength was far greater then his own. His eyes widened in disbelief over the display. She thought he would be upset, yet as she touched him, she felt her aura surround them both. She watched his mask drop and his eyes give way to the feelings and emotions bottled inside so tightly. He continued to stare at her, his eyes bore into hers, questioning her behavior. Kagome merely smiled. Her other hand moved up to cup his cheek gently. She had no idea that her whole being was engulfed in a pinkish hue, with blue fire-like borders around her skin. She looked like an angel caressing his skin the way she was. He couldn't help his fascination with her at that moment. He knew this was Inuyasha's wench. He knew she was a Miko. He knew he should kill her this instant. He never needed anyone's sympathy. He didn't want it. Why was she here? How did she enter this place? Why was he letting her touch him? How did she have such strength against him? And why was she glowing like this? All these thoughts ran through his head in seconds. She said nothing still. She only continued to fill him with her aura. He let her. Her soul was consuming him. He had no control, his ice was being melted right before him. He was powerless to stop it. He wanted it yet he didn't. It was an inner struggle that not even his beast could fight against. All rational thought flew away with the breeze. She now held his hand and his face so gently. Her eyes were glassy and teary. She felt his pain as much as he felt it. She was taking it all in. Everything. The imagery was powerful and beautiful. This was the real Inuyoukai, the side no one ever saw. The sad, the hurt, the lonely, the loving, caring, and very real side of him. She smiled sadly at him. She titled her face in his direction. He couldn't stop himself. He found himself grasping onto her hand and pulling her closer. He took her hand with his and gently ran it across his mothers name. He watched as she closed her eyes. He watched visions run across her face in emotional torrents. She gasped in surprise. She could feel everything, see all he saw. What was happening to them? What had caused this? Neither one was sure, but neither was stopping it from happening. It seemed like the most perfect and natural thing. Kagome gently placed her hand upon his face. The stoic lord of the Western Lands closed his eyes as she ran her silky fingertips along each stripe. She reveled in the feel of his soft skin against her own. She watched the emotion flicker into a soft undeniable smile. He pulled her closer to his body, he wanted her close, he wanted this companionship she was offering. She fell gracefully into his broad chest. He held her close, running his fingers through her dark luscious locks. He could hear her steady and fast heartbeat within. She could smell his masculine scent as she nestled his head against her chest. He smelled of forest and fresh rain. He held her tightly, as if this very action could cause all his fears and pain to wash away.
After several moments (it seemed to both). She pulled him away from him. He looked into her eyes, half confused, half disappointed with the lack of her body against his. She gently cupped his cheek with her hand and smiled reassuringly. She didn't speak a word. Only smiled. It was fitting he thought. It was really all he needed.
The moon hung low on the other side of the sky. She knew it was time to go. Dawn would be approaching and she needed to get back. She slowly pulled her hand away. He pulled it back immediately, relinquishing his hold on her wrist he pulled her towards him again and moved towards the shell of her ear. His lips grazed her skin, causing bumps to rise all over her arms and neck. A slight shudder caused her aura to dance and shimmer in the existing moonlight. He smiled in her ear.
"Kagome....arigato."
He pulled away from he ear, running his lips against the softness of her jawline and cheek, as he moved away his eyes looked to her own lips, they were parted in the sweetest invitation, and he couldn't help himself to have one simple taste of them.
As soon as his lips met hers, a fire within both was ignited. Kagome's aura flared into a bright blue color, covered in the ethereal light of his own. The kiss was soft yet powerful. It held so much understanding and emotion in it. One simple kiss. One simple touch was all they needed. Kagome pulled away, she rose to leave, never taking her eyes off of him. Her hand ran the length of his arm and finally to his hand as she began to rise and make her exit. He fondled her hand as it left his gentle caress. The look in both their eyes screamed in protest over the ending moment. She wanted to stay, he wanted her to stay. But something pulled her back to reality and the evident nature of the situation. She continued to smile as she began to walk away, towards the barrier, away from him.
As she turned away to leave, she looked back for a moment, locking eyes with him.
"Arigato...Sesshoumaru."
And with that Kagome walked away. Back to the camp where her friends slept peacefully. She felt as if she was in a trance, her feelings were mixed with confusion and fright at the thoughts and memories of what had occurred. He had actually accepted her. He trusted her. She knew that much. She nestled back into her sleeping bag and fell asleep.
The Next Day...
Inuyasha and the gang were walking along the lonely mountain road, away and out of the Western Lands. As Kagome turned to give the lands one last glance she noticed on top of the mountain, there he stood, tall and powerful, full of strength and depth that only she knew. Only she had seen the true Sesshoumaru. Without a wave or a smirk, they both looked into each others eyes. He looked down upon her, his eyes bore witness to the emotion he felt for her. She merely looked away and smiled. For she knew he wouldn't want it any other way.

And baby when your in town, why don't you come around boy

So this was just an interesting little thing I came up with while listening to this Alicia Keys Song. I know that this would most likely not happen and is very OOC. But it was fun to write and nice to think possible. So hope you can enjoy for the pure enjoyment of it.
