Best of you by Kaia

I'm your fool

AN: Okay! This is my first fic ever! Woo! I originally started writing this as a song fic but it was getting way to long so I just made it a normal fig ^^...the song I was writing it to was called Best of you by Foo Fighters. I was listening to it as I was falling asleep one night and thought "Wow! That'd be perfect for a song fic!" But yeah it's not a song fic anymore lol so here it is! Enjoy everybody ^__^

Also, since this is my first, please be nice *_* I don't mind constructive criticism, but don't flame be because you don't like what I've written.

Oh also, just for reference, I will never make Sesshoumaru talk in third person. It annoys the crap out of me when anybody talks like that so I refuse to make him do it. And he has two arms in this...he'll probably have two arms in every fanfic I write that includes him so deal with it lol

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha nor do I own the song. I'm just borrowing them for my own amusement XD

Climbing carefully out of the well, Kagome peered around trying to find her faithful companion. Not spotting him she began her trek through the forest to the village, blissfully unaware of a cloud of soul stealers weaving through the forest behind her.

Holding the door aside to the hut, she peered into the musty darkness that seemed to writhe with pain from being sliced with the harsh morning light. Still not seeing Inuyasha she huffed and went to find the rest of the small group. Hearing her name called out she spun on the ball of her foot and grinned spotting Sango.

"Hey guys! Have you seen Inuyasha? I have a present for him." Grinning happily she didn't notice the slight glance Sango made towards Miroku. Before either of them could answer, Shippou had slammed full force into the unsuspecting Miko knocking her back a few steps.

"Kagome! I missed you so much! Did you bring me back anything?!"

She couldn't help but giggle at the small Kitsune's excitement. Placing a finger thoughtfully on her bottom lip she made a small 'hmm' sound.

"Well, I was in a hurry packing so I could make it back for the Tanabata Star Festival** tonight..." Glancing an eye down to the small boy she nearly laughed out loud when she saw the pitiful look grace his features. "Of course I brought you something! How could I forget my favorite Kitsune?" Smiling she dug in her bag and handed Shippou the small sack of candy and toys. Giggling slightly she sighed as the boy ran off to a tree with his spoils.

Turning back to her friends she couldn't help but notice they both looked nervous and somewhat...guilty?

"What's wrong?" She asked them concern taking over her features. This time she didn't miss the glance between the monk and demon slayer. Her eyebrows furrowed in concern slightly when Sango sucked her bottom lip into her teeth chewing on it softy. Her attention turned to Miroku when he cleared his throat.

"Kagome.... It's Inuyasha." Before he could say another word the Miko nearly tackled him fear striking her beautiful eyes.

"What happened?! Where is he? Is he ok?" It was Sango who sighed and told her what happened.

Staring in disbelief at her best friend she slowly shook her head.

"All night?" Feeling the tears beginning to form in her eyes, she took a step away from the two.

"Kagome...wait. We don't know what actually happened after he left." Miroku almost cringed at the pang of guilt that ripped through his abdomen. He should have stopped him.

She took another step, mouthing the word 'no'.

"Kagome, Please. Miroku's right. We don't know what happened for sure."

The tears finally fell as Kagome choked on her words.

"I do!" She yelled. "That bitch wants him to die with her!" She turned and ran, her heart nearly breaking with every step. 'How? How could he go to her?!' Tears streamed freely and unhalting down her ivory skin. Kagome didn't know where her feet were taking her; she just knew they were trying to escape from the harsh words that echoed in her head.

'Kikyou's soul stealers showed up last night.'

'He left with a guilty look on his face.'

'He never came back.'

A sob escaped her lips. She was heart broken and lost within her own mind. Inuyasha was her world. She would never admit it to anybody else, but she didn't have to. They knew. It was plainly written on her face.

Tripping on a root she stopped at stared at the ground. 'He can't be dead!' Looking up she saw the well. Walking slowly towards it, sobbing the entire way she thought of how this all got started. It was then that she noticed the nearly transparent snake-like creatures slithering through the treetops.

Gasping slightly she walked cautiously towards the trees in front of her. Did she really want to find out if her plan had succeeded? Or was she better of thinking that he might be coming back.

Scrubbing her face on the sleeve of her shirt she balled her hands at her sides and continued to walk into the foreboding forest. She prepared herself mentally for any oncoming fights with the clay miko.

She almost screamed out when one of the soul stealers brushed up against her leg, testing to see if she had a soul to offer. Quickening her pace slightly she continued on an unknown path towards what could very well be her undoing.

Kagome jerked to a halt when she finally saw movement other than the soul stealers ahead of her. Silently bracing herself for a horrible scene, she pressed on. 'Please be alive...' Chanting it like a mantra in her head she pressed onward inching closer to the small clearing.

"Inuyasha. You cannot resist me any longer, although I have to say you've done a good job until now." Standing over the hanyou, Kikyo let a ghostly smile pass over her lips briefly before scowling slightly. 'Does she really mean that much to you?'

"Ki.... kyo..." The nearly spent hanyou barely whispered.

"Now, now. You can't start begging; I've just barely begun. I will make you scream for forgiveness before I'm through with you." Sneering at the crumpled form of the once strong hanyou.

She frowned slightly when he tried to stand up. Curiously she watched to see if he really could.

"Ki...kyo..." he repeated again, still a whisper but stronger than before.

Glaring at the soft white ears on the head of her former love she contemplated what would happen if she yanked on them. Before she had a chance to act Inuyasha looked up directly in her eyes. She was shocked at the mixed emotions held in his golden eyes.

They seemed to be locked into eyes forever, trying to decipher just how each was feeling.

Finally able to swallow past the immense pain radiating throughout his body, Inuyasha whispered "I.... will never...forgive myself...." He fell forward unable to finish as the clay miko dropped a hard fist on his head.

Coughing harshly, he tried to gain his voice again. "Please... forgive...." He blacked out before he could finish.

Nearly releasing a growl Kikyo spun around and walked away from the battered hanyou.

"How dare he!" Spinning around again she glared hatefully down at Inuyasha. She gathered some of her spiritual force and healed him just enough to wake him up.

"Why should I forgive you, Inuyasha? You've done nothing but betray the promise you made to me by prancing around with that half-witted worthless reincarnation of mine." Narrowing her eyes she waited for the response she knew would come.

"I..." sighing Inuyasha slumped his shoulders and stared at his hands. "I know..."

Kagome was stunned. She couldn't move and she could barely take a breath. 'He thinks that I'm worthless...' Her heart dropped into her stomach. She had to fight desperately at the sobs begging to escape from her throat. The scene in front of her blurred as her barely dried lids filled to the brim with tears again.

Kikyo was stunned. 'He knows?' narrowing her eyes again she took the remaining steps towards him again.

"How could you possibly know? Instead of returning to me after I was revived you abandoned me again!" Grinding her teeth she mentally struck Inuyasha in the side with a hardened ball of her spiritual energy, flinging him to his side.

He coughed again and spat out the blood that pooled in his mouth. Closing his eyes tightly he tried to catch his breath enough to speak again.

"Please...Kikyo...I swore to you I wouldn't have anything to do with her anymore. What else can I do?"

Smirking inwardly Kikyo knelt down to him and grabbed his chin in her ice-cold hand.

"You can die."

"NOOOO!" Kagome finally found her voice and feet again and flung herself into the clearing. "Inuyasha!"

Swiftly standing to her feet, Kikyo wrapped the broken hearted girl in her spiritual energy quickly halting her from reaching the hanyou.

"Inuyasha..." She whimpered again finally letting the sobs go not caring she was bound from moving.

Smirking to the girl Kikyo turned back to stare at Inuyasha. She had known the girl was there ever since she had turn around. 'Finally.... I will be rid of her...'

Inuyasha's heart dropped when he saw and heard Kagome coming upon the scene. He knew that he couldn't fight Kikyo anymore and he felt a pang of guilt that the one girl who taught him how to trust again would have to watch him willingly die.

"Ka...Kagome..." He whispered hoarsely his voice dripping with emotion. His world spun and his vision blurred slightly as he was struck in the side again by an invisible force. He turned his attention back to the clay miko and nearly broke into pieces as he saw the look in her eyes. She was hurt.

Kikyo couldn't believe her ears. He actually called out to her. 'He's supposed to call out to me like that!' Hurt stabbed her through her every being but it quickly turned to fury. If she had claws she would be flexing them.

Using his hand to push him up on his knees again, Inuyasha reached for Kikyo, his heart filling with guilt. He was about to break Kagome's soul. He had to though, He promised Kikyo. Swallowing past the lump forming in his throat, Inuyasha managed to grab Kikyou's hand and pulled her closer to him.

"Kikyo...I don't care about her. I've only cared about you. She was only good for finding shards..." Stopping briefly to catch his breath He pulled her closer to his self so he could wrap his arms around her "Kikyo... I... I never wanted to hurt you." He finished off burying his face into her shoulder, pressing her frame into his body as much as he could.

'He's hurting her on purpose...' Kikyo let a ghostly smile grace her cold lips. Pushing away from him just enough to turn and look at the girl she let her see the smile still on her lips and released her hold on the broken girl. Inuyasha wouldn't go to her. She finally had him to herself.

Turning back, Kikyo pressed her lips against Inuyasha's, releasing her spiritual powers and taking the both of them to hell once and for all.

Frozen in horror, Kagome watched as the love of her life disappeared into hell with her predecessor. She didn't know how long she had been sitting there frozen, but she snapped to attention when she heard her friends calling her name.

Not knowing what she was doing or where she was going she stood and ran away from the voices. Her mind replaying the scene over and over again, She didn't care that she was alerting numerous creatures and demons alike of her presence. She was a broken soul with nothing to loose and nowhere to go.

When she finally stopped she had ran through the rest of the day and half of the night, although, she didn't stop by choice. A vine that had grown across the pathway had snagged her foot smashing her into the ground. She didn't move. Her entire body was burning from the strain of running so long. Her throat and lungs burned and her stomach ached.

Turning her head slightly so she wasn't eating foliage she stared at a rock next to her, still thinking of the events the morning before. A haunted sleep took her without her permission.

Sesshoumaru had been keeping watch over his human ward when he first heard the crashing of the forest coming straight towards him. He opened his senses to see if he could tell what was coming towards him, but because there was no wind he wasn't able to smell the miko until she was almost upon them. He glanced over towards Rin and silently arose to stop the miko before she woke the child.

Letting his mask slip briefly he let a confused expression touch his features as the crashing stopped abruptly, leaving him to wonder what had happened. Glancing back to the child once more he silently slipped into the waiting arms of the darkness that cloaked the trees. It didn't take him long to find the miko asleep on her stomach in the middle of the small trail.

Cocking his eyebrow slightly he couldn't help but wonder what had happened. She was in a poor state of being. Her pale skin had numerous cuts and bruises and her hair was matted with sweat and dirt. Upon closer inspection he noted that her eyes seemed to be swollen and red, and her nose was raw.

He turned away when he sensed that Rin had awoken and was now calling his name. He looked back towards the miko and sighed inwardly. Gracefully bending he lifted the frail human and carried her back to the encampment.

'What have you done now, Little brother.'

Silently walking out of the cloak of darkness he smiled inwardly when Rin spotted him and gasped.

"Lord Sesshoumaru! There you are! Who's that? Is she nice? Will she hurt Rin?" The girl followed the stoic demon every step as he placed the woman against Ah-Un and removed his fur pelt to wrap around her for comfort. Stepping gingerly up next to the woman she peered at her face.

"What happened to her, Lord Sesshoumaru?"

"I do not know, Rin." He replied as he sat next to the woman. Looking over at the curious expression of the little girl he smiled inwardly again. He didn't know when she had wormed her way into his heart and he didn't care. He was just glad she was around to keep him company.

"Rin." The girl snapped her eyes up to his and smiled wide. "Will you please bring me some water?" Giggling the little girl ran behind the two headed dragon to find the bladder of water she had filled before they settled in for the night. Running back around she handed Sesshoumaru the bladder and grinned her biggest grin. She liked doing things for her Lord Sesshoumaru.

Gently tipping the miko's head back, Sesshoumaru slowly let the cool liquid slid past her lips and down her throat. She never stirred once as he replenished her thirst. Setting her back he glanced at Rin who resting against his leg and let a small smile pass across his lips. He would die if he lost her.

He silently sat the rest of the night altering between watching Rin and Kagome.

When Kagome finally awoke she wasn't sure she was even alive. Her entire body ached and her stomach still hurt. Her mind was fogged over and for the moment she didn't remember anything that had happened. Groaning she tried to move her arm to rub her face only to find she couldn't lift it.

Not caring to find out why she tried the other arm and found it worked fine, if a bit stiffly. Bringing it to her face she gently rubbed her eyes hoping to help them open. She tried sitting up but again found that she couldn't move. She began to panic thinking she really had died. When she was finally able to open her eyes she quickly closed them against the harsh light. Squinting she tried again and succeeded.

Looking down she noticed the body of a small child sprawled over her lower body. 'So that's why I can't move...' Turning her head slightly she glanced around the area. It seemed as if her and the child were the only people around. But why was the girl there? Where were her parents?

Smiling slightly she reached down and moved the girls hair out of her face. She gasped when she noticed who it was, the human girl that followed Sesshoumaru around. The event's from the previous morning slammed into her mind and made her gasp with horror and pain. Dropping her head into her free hand she sobbed openly, never noticing that Sesshoumaru had returned with food and was now curiously watching her.

Silently placing the food on the ground he walked up to her not knowing what to do. He never liked it when females cried, human or demon. His being near seemed to make her crying soften a bit so he did the first thing that came to his mind.

He hugged her.

Kagome gasped and shot her head up when she felt the embrace of strong arms around her shoulders. She didn't know if she was dreaming or not but when she turned her head she was looking directly into the golden eyes of Sesshoumaru. Lord of the western lands and Inuyasha's older half brother. It was then that she no longer felt the weight on her body; she took advantage of it and bolted up in a standing position, almost knocking Sesshoumaru backwards. She instantly regretted this movement and fell to her knees. Her muscles were still to weak to support her full weight.

"Are you ok? Rin is sorry she slept on you. Do you need anything? Rin can get it for you."

Kagome glanced to the source of the voice and found the little girl crouching next to her with a worried look on her face. Her vision was once again watery as her eyes filled with tears. Turning away from the small girl she put her face in her hands once again and sobbed.

Rin looked at Sesshoumaru for an answer but he had none to give. Motioning for her to come to him she stood and walked quickly to his side and whispered in his ear.

"Rin did not mean to make the lady sad. Rin just wanted to cuddle with somebody."

Nodding his head slightly to the girl he patted her shoulder. "I do not think it is you who caused her tears, Rin. I believe it to be Inuyasha who has caused them." He looked at the miko kneeling in front of him. She had the look of a broken soul who had nowhere to turn.

Standing silently he looked down upon her. "Miko..." gaining her attention he almost stopped at the look in her eyes "You will come with me." Confusion momentarily slashed across her features before she stood up. Choking back a sob she began to get angry.

"You can't tell me what to do, Sesshoumaru. You don't own me!" balling her fists at her side she turned and began to walk away. She almost fell into uncontrollable sobs at what she heard next.

"What did that filthy hanyou do to you that broke you so?"

Leaning against a tree for support she had to choke back several more sobs before she could finally speak in a strained whisper. "He chose hell."

Narrowing his eyes he could see the pain in every inch of her body. 'Hell...' he repeated in his mind. 'So the fool was dead, willingly choosing to die with that dead miko.' He almost growled out loud at the thought of his foolish half brother denying the strength and beauty of this miko over the cold weakness of the dead miko he had loved 50 years earlier.

Walked over to the miko he gently grabbed her and picked her up bridal style. She went rigid at first not knowing why he was treating her so kindly, but it didn't last long. Anger settled into her skin and she glared at him through her tears and sobs. Glancing down at her he almost grinned at her expression.

She was trying so hard to be angry with him but too weak and hurt to go through with it. So she sat in his arms with her arms crossed over her chest and let the tears fall down her face.

"You're not going to win me over that easily you know."

'I know...' he thought 'you've been so mistreated, it'll take so much more to make you the strong beautiful woman you once were.'

Glancing at the cool demon caring her she couldn't help but wonder where this kindness had come from and why he was showing it to her.

Kagome had stayed with Sesshoumaru for two weeks before she decided that she needed to find Sango and Miroku to apologize to them for running off. She was sure that Sesshoumaru wouldn't mind, She had done nothing but cried uncontrollably or stared into space blankly the entire time. He was probably tired of her.

"Rin..." she called to the bright girl. Normally she would plaster on a fake smile for the girl just to keep the questions from coming. "I have to go for a little while. Please stay here with Au-Un." She waited for the girl to nod her understanding before standing and walking away.

She didn't really know how to get to where she was going but she couldn't stand being around somebody so closely related to Inuyasha. At the mere thought of his name her eyes filled with tears and her heart constricted. Shaking her head she began thinking of school and the work she would have to do to catch up again, anything to keep the memory of the hanyou out of her mind.

Kagome had been walking for nearly three hours going over different math equations when she felt a presence behind her, glancing over her shoulder she nearly screamed when she saw Sesshoumaru standing no more than a foot behind her. Tears instantly came to her eyes as her straining mind turned to his brother.

Closing the rest of the distance between them, Sesshoumaru gingerly took the broken miko in his arms. "I will take you to your friends." Were the only words he spoke to her as he gently lifted her and turned south to find the monk and demon slayer.

Silent sobs wracked Kagome's body as she relived the morning that Inuyasha died in her mind. 'Why? Why did you choose her?' she screamed in her head, clutching her face in her hands. She hadn't realized she had said it out loud halting the trek of the demon lord.

Sesshoumaru had silently been thinking of a way to comfort her when he was snapped out of his thoughts by a hurt cry. He stopped and stared down at her, his mask slipped and a mixture of worry, anger and pain settled into his elegant features. He wasn't sure why he was feeling the way he was, he never felt this strongly even about Rin. Realizing he let his mask slip he quickly willed it back into place and continued walking south.

They hadn't been walking more than 10 minutes when the broken miko suddenly stopped crying, letting her hands drop from her face.

"Put me down." She said silently, knowing full well he heard her loud and clear. "Thank you for your care. I no longer need your help. Please return to Rin."

She hadn't looked at him once as she spoke and as soon as the last word was said she began walking away. Confusion glittered across the demon lord's eyes momentarily at her sudden change. His heart longed to take the hurt away from her but he knew he couldn't. He refused to show any more signs of weakness. Knowing full well that there was a chance he had already showed too much just by having contact with her so long.

Standing still until he could no longer see the form of the girl he turned and began his journey back to his human ward.

It had finally registered in her mind. "I was never wanted," she said out loud to the trees surrounding her. "I was just to stupid to notice it earlier." Halting momentarily she narrowed her eyes. "No, I noticed, I just didn't want to believe it." Recalling every time Inuyasha had said she was only good for detecting shards or every time he went to Kikyo she hardened the now forming wall around her heart.

"How could you..." were her last words spoken for the night.

Sango and Miroku continued their tireless trek for their missing friend. They had come upon a small clearing with a large hole in the ground. It didn't take long to realize what happened. Kikyo made good on her promise to take Inuyasha to hell with her.

"I can't believe he did that to her, Miroku. What did she ever do to him to deserve such behavior?" She had said the same statement so many times that her companion had stopped answering. Chewing on her lip again she peered through the nearby trees trying desperately to spot any sign of her friend.

"Sango, we need to rest soon. We'll have a better chance of catching a sign from her if we are well rested." Resting a hand on the slayers shoulder. Turning she sucked her bottom lip into her teeth, frowning slightly.

"I suppose you're right." And with that they made camp where they stood, not realizing the girl they had been searching for the past week for was not far off.

Kagome had walked almost nonstop for three days. She had set firmly in her head that she had pushed Inuyasha away. She begrudged herself for forcing him to have anything to do with her. Now she on her way to find Miroku and Sango and apologize for wasting their time. She would leave for her own world after speaking with them.

Sighing she took another drink from the small stream she had stopped at. Standing she squinted into the nearby trees trying to figure out where she was. She spotted movement and froze. Hoping beyond hope that it wasn't some hungry demon she inched closer towards the movement.

Realizing it was Sango she stood began walking swiftly towards her. She had to duck quickly as the girl had released a chain meant to tangle Kagome up.

"Sango wait! It's me!" Realizing her mistake, Sango cried out and ran for her friend checking to see if she was ok.

"Kagome! I'm so sorry! I thought you were a demon." Grabbing her friend she yanked her into a tight hug and cried lightly on the miko's shoulder. 'Why is she crying over me?' Kagome thought idly. "Sango? Are you ok?" came the gentle voice of the monk.

"Miroku! I found her!" Came the happy cry of the slayer. Turning back to Kagome an instant frown stole her features. "Kagome?" She could see the hurt deep within the girl's eyes, but she could also see cold determination and it scared her.

Removing Sango's hands from her shoulders Kagome walked towards the direction Miroku was in. When she finally had both of their attention, she told them flatly what she had rehearsed repeatedly in her own head.

"I just came to tell the both of you that I'm sorry. I will be returning to my own world and won't be coming back. There's no real need for me to continue the search for the remaining shards. I don't believe anybody will give you trouble now that Naraku is dead. Please don't follow me. I ask that you have Kaede seal the well so that nobody can use it again." With that she stood and began to walk away.

Sango and Miroku were stunned. They knew that Inuyasha's death had affected her but they didn't realize just to what extent it did. Standing swiftly they ran after her retreating form only to slam into an invisible force field.

"Kagome! Please don't go!" Came the frightened cry of Sango. "Please, Kagome! I need you!" She began to pound her fists on the wall trying vainly to break it down. Looking to Miroku with pleading eyes she found him in a trance. He was trying to fight the miko's spiritual power to try and subdue her.

Dropping to a knee he panted putting a hand on the ground for support. "She's too strong. She's so lost in her own mind I don't think she realizes what she's doing. Sango we can't do anything."

"NO! We can't just let her go! I know she means just as much to you as she does to me!" Nodding his head he grabbed Sango's hand and pulled her down to face him. "Yes you're right. But I can't fight her strength on my own. We will go to Kaede and ask for her help." He was knocked backwards onto his rear when the demon slayer flung herself into his arms. He held her gently trying to comfort her. 'I'm sorry Inuyasha hurt you so, Kagome, but I refuse to let you give up so easily.'

Guilt tickled the back of Kagome's mind as she wound her way through the forest. She didn't really want to hurt Sango, but she knew that it was better that she was gone. She only held her friends back. Without realizing it she had slid her foot under the root of a tree, successfully forcing her to fall to the ground. She cursed silently to herself and sat back on her knees. She froze in horror as she realized that she was now kneeling in the very same clearing that she witnessed Inuyasha falling to hell.

Trying desperately to keep a hold on her tears she slowly stood and stared at the hole in the ground. Screaming out her emotions she flung herself into the hole and pounded it with her fists. "I gave you everything! I showed you my heart and you stole it, Inuyasha!" Now seething with anger she stood and glared at the dirt below her feet. Letting a single tear escape her grasp she kicked the dirt. "I gave you everything..."

Climbing out of the hole she ran towards the well that she knew wasn't far off.

Reaching the well in a few short minutes, Kagome now stood over it peering into the inky darkness.

'Just one jump and it's all over...' she thought viciously. Peering back over her shoulder into the now completely black forest she narrowed her eyes in hatred and pain. Turning back she gracefully slid into the unearthly glow and landed in her own time.

Looking up to the ceiling of the well house she let another tear slide from her eye. Quickly scrubbing it away she climbed up the ladder and slipped out of the darkness of the small room and into the moonlight night of her families shrine. Sighing softly she walked to the front door of her house and slipped in quietly.

"Kagome! What are you doing here? I though you were going to be gone for another three days." She almost cringed at her own mother's voice.

"We're done, momma. We've found all the shards. I don't have to go back now." Keeping her eyes trained on the floor she began walking up the stairs to her bedroom. "I'm really tired, I'll see you in the morning." And with that she slipped up stairs and into her own bedroom. Crossing the short distance to her dresser she slid of her clothing and grabbed a clean pair of shorts and a baggy t-shirt. Looking down at her naked skin, she noticed just how dirty it had gotten. She hadn't taken a bath since the day she left Sesshoumaru.

Sighing she grabbed her bathrobe and slipped it on. Quietly slipping out of her room and into the bathroom across the hall she turned on the water. Sitting on the edge of the tub she adjusted the knobs until it was the right temperature. Standing she slipped off her robe and dropped her clean clothes on the counter next to the sink. Glancing up to her reflection in the mirror she didn't recognize the girl looking back. She had ratted hair, sunken eyes and overly pale skin. Shaking her head she turned back to the bath and slipped into the hot water, turning it off as she sunk in.

Closing her eyes she let her whole body relax, not realizing just how tensed up it really was. As she relaxed she let tears slip from her closed lids as she mourned for the two friends she no longer had. 'What are you talking about. They were never your friends. You just held them back.' Holding her breath she slid under the water.

'Nobody wants anything to do with you. You're a pitiful excuse for a human being. You should do them all a favor and die.'

Her lungs began burning for air and she squeezed her eyes close harder.

'You killed him.'

Realization hit. She killed Inuyasha. Sure she didn't kill him physically but she caused his death. Sitting up in the tub and sucking in air to her burning lungs she stared at her hands.

'You killed him...' It repeated in her head like a mantra. Quickly scrubbing her hair and body with soap she rinsed and climbed out of the tub, wrapping her hair in a towel and her robe around her body. She grabbed the clothing off the counter and pulled the plug in the tub. Rushing out of the bathroom and back into her own bedroom, she thought she could get away from the voice taunting her over and over in her head.

Leaning against the door with her eyes closed and her head in her hand she tried to will the phrase to go away. She heard a small ruffle and snapped her head up. Her eyes widened when the last person she expected to be in her room was standing in front of her open window.
