Hello, Goodbye by ValleyKnown

Prologue

Author's Notes : This was written in response to the challenge posted by Noacat. Kudos galore to her for working so closely with me on this--you're awesome! No spoilers that I know of, all main characters have been introduced. I do update very slowly though, so just bear with me.

And now, it is with great pleasure that I present to you...

Hello, Goodbye

Night and day. Good and evil. The future and what has past. Man and woman... All of these things are held at opposites, but without each other there would not be the product that they make when mixed.

Without the day, there would be no life, no joy, and no hope. But if there were not night, then there would be no rest from the constant demands of the day. Together they create our lives.

Good brings the light to the world but without some evil, the light would be too bright and no one would be able to see.

The future gives no hints of what is to come but it also brings the hope of what might be. If there were no such thing as the past, there would be no hope because without a past, one cannot have a future.

The man and woman are so at opposite ends of the spectrum, that you could not stand on only one side and see the other from where you were. No, to see both sides, one must be able to transcend and stand in the middle. Only then could one see both sides and draw them together.

A man and woman live many long days and endure through long nights, waiting for the dawn to come so that the night will be over, butthen pray for darkness to conceal the despairs of the day.

Each man and each woman house both good and evil, and light and darkness in differing amounts in their souls. But the souls would have no room to grow and no reason to continue on if they did not have a past to learn from and also a future to look forward to.

Without a past, you cannot have a future and with no future you have no present. Without a man you have no woman and without a woman you can have no man. If there were not day there would be not night. If good were not given to balance evil there would be no peace.

But what if you had a past, but it was actually your present and your future should be your past?

What if you were good and had to fight evil, but by no means that could be considered 'good'?

What if you traveled night and day, searching for that lost past and distant future, and not noticing your present as it passed by and what if you happened to get lost? What if the contradictions in your life are just too many and too much?

What if it all fell apart?
