Searching in the Dark to Find the Light by punkedout_rebel

The meeting

"Kagome!" I flinched at the sound of her stepmother's high nagging voice.

"What?"

"Pay attention to your lessons." I sighed in frustrated with her princess lessons. She longed to be outside in the training field getting lost in the movements of her sword dances.

"But mother why do I need to know this stuff? Its not like I need to know about where my husband must sit and were I must sit because I am not getting married."

"Yes you are in fact the negotiations with Lord Ishito have confirmed that you will marry his son because by tomorrow you will be officially betrothed."

I froze were I sat. My stepmother had gone behind my back and got me a husband.

"Absolutely not." I declared in a voice of iron.

"You will. Especially after that little fit you had." I rolled my eyes thinking of the so called 'little fit'. I had run away fro four years and had only just returned a few months ago. My family still didn't know what I had accomplished in those four years. I had gone and obtained what had believed was impossible for as long as I could reember. I had not only become the only Sha'Tie in history, but I had also risen to rouge rank. A rank that gave me control over any Sha'tie I came across, they had to obey me or meet the consequences.

I glared at my stepmother and left the room without a second thought. I made my way to the training yard, but when I go there I no longer had the need to join in with my fellow comrades. So instead a nice peaceful walk through the Enchanted Forest might be nice. Though it was nearly impossible to have a 'peaceful' walk through that place, well that is, it was hard for most people. I had no problems with the magic forest. For some reason it loved me like I was one of its own elements. Which made no sense because didn't fire burn down forests? I had long ago given up trying to think of why and had settled on that the forest was just twisted so much with magic it no longer knew the difference.

I walked through the wood until I reached my favorite spot to relax and take naps. When I got there I sat down in the shade and closed my eyes. Because I wasn't quite ready to face the fact that I was betrothed to probably some bastard, I thought back to the recent rumors about this forest. Whisper said that more and more werewolves, giants, and even vampires where coming to live in the forest.

The last one amused me the most. Since as long as I could remember I have had a fascination about the undead. Despite all the ugly things they did to their victims, I would like to meet once. I snorted out loud thinking about how nice it would be to die not listening to my stepmothers voice.

"Vampires come and get me!" I yelled as loud as I could. I have no idea what came over me to yell out such a thing. But instead of fretting over it I just laid back and settled in for a nap.

In their slumbers the vampires heard the clear young voice of a woman yelling out and offering herself to them. They all silently agreed that she would be the one they would feed to him.

I yawned a stretched lazily. I opened my eyes and groaned. The sun was setting I knew I was going to get a major lecture form my stepmother. I sighed then stood up. I wasn't quite ready for her lecture so I decided I would go for a stroll before I got home so that at least I could get what was worth out of the event. After a quick decision I decided to turn left and go into the gloomier part of the woods because it matched my attitude.

I opened up my senses to the woods in hopes of feeling all it had to offer. The sound of crunching leaves beneath my feet sounded like music to my ears. The smell of damp and decaying undergrowth, and the soft breeze was like a lovers gentle caress. Unbidden a blush crept up on me and engulfed my face. I should not be thinking of such things.

As the undergrowth got thicker I was glad that I had decided to wear my baggy pants and halter-top today even if stepmother had been pissed. The sun had officially set and I was getting ready to turn back.

Behind me I herd a crunch in the underbrush. I froze like a dear caught in the headlights. I just knew it wasn't my imagination. I could almost sense the bodies behind me. So I bolted.

I tried to get out of there as fast as I could. I put all my strength into running away I didn't even notice the line of them in front of me. It's was almost like running into a solid wall except solid walls didn't smell like old blood. Strong arms wrapped around me to keep me from running away. In rage I looked up at the vampire. He captured my gaze in his and held it there. I could feel my eyes drooping and my mind telling me that I needed sleep. Then the world was cut off from me simply because my eyes refused to obey me.

~~~~~******************~~~~~~~~~~
woke up to the sight of a looming castle before me. It was not taken care of well and I could tell that it would be fully collapsed in about a decade. My mind still hadn't registered that she was being dragged by a pack of vampires, but it did just then.
I made a full attempt at escape. I used all the Sha'tie tricks that came to mind, but no of them seemed to help. It took all fifteen of them to get me still. As we approached the ram-shackled castle, I was not afraid for my life. I breathed in and as calmly as I did before a battle. I would not give the vampires the satisfaction of seeing me afraid.
"What have you finally given up, tiger?" One of them leered at me.
"Boss why do we have to give her to him?" The one that had leered at me whined to his boss.
"Because she has a taint." This made the whiner stop in his tracks and take another look at me.
" I see what you mean." The whiner said instantly repelled. I was hurt that they would she anything wrong with me. I thought I looked at least half decent. (Authors note: I m changing how she looks as well).
I had pure white and red tipped hair that seemed to capture the moonlight itself. It matched my red and white speckled eyes as well. I had a well muscled (but still feminine) body. My face had no ugly defects if anything the exact opposite. With soft plump lips and a small petite nose and perfect skin. I was still trying to figure out my defect when we approached the stares.
The only sound they emitted was from my weight and not any of the vampires. We walked through the rotting front door of the small castle. They turned me into what seemed to be the great hall.
From were I stood I could see and large bundle lying in the shadows. Once I realized that it posed no threat at the moment (for it only being a bundle and all) I turned my full attention to what these vampires were planning to do to me.
"Get the shackle." Boss commanded. Whiner went off into the shadows and retrieved what was undoubtfully the shackle I was to have. I didn't even move when he came over and strapped it onto my leg. I stood there silently and accepted my fate. One of the key lessons taught, as a Sha'Tie was to fight only at the opportune moment, which to me, didn't seem like now.
Even though I knew I was a really good fighter and was a little bit headstrong at times, I knew that I could not take on fifteen vampires that could move faster then me and quieter then me without some back up.
When they pushed me I stumbled foreword to make them think I was mere human girl without any strength to defend myself. But I hated the fact that the push was in fact enough to make me stumble. I pulled myself together and sat crossed legged on the floor to watch and see what happened next.
The Whiner laughed over at my shadow. His laugh sounded evil and made the small hairs on the back of my neck stand up on end. Then they turned to leave. But just before the Whiner was gone he turned and yelled out,
" I hope you enjoy your meal." I was a bit confused because he wasn't talking to me; he was talking in the direction of the large bundle. Then the Whiner was gone and I was left all alone, or so I thought.
The shackles chain was long enough for me to reach half way across the great hall then it stopped. I was bored so decided to walk into the moonlight that was shining out of the large windows.
It felt great against my skin. I opened my arms to try and absorb more of it.
"Your not like the rest of them." I whirled around to try and see the speaker of the voice.
The large bundle that I had seen when I arrived, gracefully stood up and came foreword into the moonlight. My eyes widened at what I saw.
He was incredibly beautiful. With long pure white hair that reminded me of the moons rays, yellow eyes and a crescent moon on the forehead and two lines below each eye, a richly made kimono with arm armor and soft looking fur on opposite shoulders. He was the man of ever woman's dreams, just not mine.
My eyes narrowed suspiciously. Now I understood what the Whiner had said before he left. This man, if you put it that way, was in fact a vampire. The only thing that made me pause before pulling out my concealed daggers is that he wore a shackle too.
"Do not worry. I can not kill you." I was surprised at his comment. Of course he could kill me because I was a mere human and he was beyond a normal vampire.
Then my thoughts went back to what I had been thinking on arriving. They were only of meeting my inevitable fate with pride and dignity like a true Sha'Tie. Even if it meant that I would be sucked dry by this terribly handsome vampire.
"Tell me about you life." I was surprised out of my thoughts at his deep husky voice. The words were spoken as a command but the way he spoke them was as if he was requesting me to tell him. I made the quick decision and decided that I would tell him of my- oh- so wonderful life.
"Well I am a princess." I slowly began. " A couple of years ago I got fed up with my pointless life and ran away from home. I decided I wanted a future not only as a princess but as a warrior too. So I became a Sha'Tie." I noticed the vampires eyebrows raise a bit. It looked really freakish when he did it because I had no idea that vampires had any human characteristics.
" Anyways I made it my goal to be the best I could be in all aspects when it came to fighting. Instead of becoming specialized in one or two types of fighting I took on them all. In four years I graduated and became a full fledged rouge Sha'Tie."
"Then I went home. My family still doesn't know what I did during those four years I had been gone. So anyways I returned to my courtly duties and only to day I learned that I am to be married to somebody I don't know, but-" I stopped form finishing because I didn't know what to say exactly.
"But," he urged on with a curiously emotionless voice.
"But I don't wish to be so I went for a walk in the Enchanted Forest and now I am here." I finished off lamely.
He nodded than faded off into the dark again.
"Wait!" I called out without thinking. The vampire froze and waited.
"Aren't you going to kill me?" I asked quietly.
"I cant." I looked up at him surprised.
"Why?"
"Because I can not harm an innocent." Then he retreated back into the shadows.
