Vain Intent
Prologue
The moon glowed in sadness as the priestess ran through the shadowy forest. She was seemingly unaffected by the sharp branches down the path that marred her skin and clothing. All she wanted was to escape from the heart-wrenching scene she witnessed. I hate you, Inuyasha! She screamed in her mind as tears descended from her eyes.
"He loves her, only Kikyo." She whispered while she stopped on her trail. "I'm not needed here anymore, he has her now." She spoke softly at the same time wiping her tears away. "Goodbye, Inuyasha."
The girl gave the demon lord a questioning gaze. "Rin, stay with Jaken." The silver-haired demon spoke in an emotionless manner. Inuyasha, I will come to take what rightfully belongs to me. He said in his mind then, began to retreat towards his destination.
The green creature watched while his master's figure vanished under the shadows of the tall twisted trees. "Sesshoumaru-sama?" The human child said with a frown.
"Stupid girl, Lord Sesshoumaru will return." He spoke in an annoyed tone. He did not understand why his master revived this child. She is human. He hated her kind of being.
If he only knew
Fate had a plan that would forever bind his master to humanity
Pain, the only feeling that was left within her heart, it seemed that her world began to shudder and crack. The grief that she felt was too much for her to bear. I'm alone... She whispered dejectedly.
"Kagome, please don't go." The boy pleaded while tears cascaded from his eyes. "Don't leave us Kagome, don't leave me." His heart was crying.
"I'm sorry Souta, Mom. I must to go back. Inuyasha needs me." With that, she leaped on the well.
"Kagome..." Her mother whispered as she gazed at her daughter's vanishing form.
"I gave up everything just for him," She whispered. "He didn't need me after all." She added. She embraced her body, feeling the cold breeze that was caressing her frail skin. She leaned her head on the firm trunk and closed her eyes. She found a temporary shelter and it was all that mattered for now.
A scowl appeared on his face the moment he caught a scent of a human. Without his consent, his feet followed the path towards the rather familiar aroma.
He continued farther until he noticed a silhouette of a man under the tree. He strode closer as he observed the unmoving frame. A woman, no–a girl... He said when he had a clear view of the mortal before him.
Though he couldn't see her face under the night's shade, he could still smell an aroma, the same sweet-scent that lingered in the wind during his unfriendly meetings with his half-brother. His eyes narrowed in recognition. This is the priestess. Without second thoughts, he raised his hand in an attempt to rip the girl into shreds.
However, a soft whimper was released from the human's lips. This stopped his assail just inches away from her face. "I love you..." She muttered in her slumber. A single tear fell down her cheek. "Inuyasha." Her words surprised the Lord of the Western Lands. With claws still set a thread away from his target, he stared at her with curiosity and saw the sorrow that she carried.
He cared not for her, but deep inside him, he almost felt pity for the girl... almost. Instinctively, as if his body had a mind of its own, he gently lifted the girl with his right arm, and with the help of his tail, he carried the lithe figure to his companions.
