The Blood of the River

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The battle had begun and they were not fairing well.

"INUYASHA!" Kagome screamed as a poison filled tentacle soared at him.

The battle had been bloody for there side and while Naraku didn't look affected at all, there side had large loses. Sango had been torn to shreds by demons when her hiraikotsu had been in the air, while Miroku's death had made a momentary gap between the enemy lines that it had filled as quickly as it had been made, Kirara was slowly being consumed by miasma.

Naraku had again managed to avoid the kaze no kizu to get to Inuyasha and hit him square in the stomach. Normally his wouldn't have taken him down, but they had been fighting since dawn and he had lost lots of blood from various wounds, also the deaths of there companions were heavy on Kagome's and Inuyasha's mind.

Naraku's jewel enhanced body was taking them down before they could even counterattack.

Kagome and Inuyasha were the last standing, both had managed to aim there best attacks to Naraku but nothing seemed to reach or affect him. Kagome was down and dangerously weak as she saw unable to help, Naraku give Inuyasha another blow. As Naraku turned to her she heard him laugh evilly.

"Not so strong now are we miko?" Naraku retorted "come to me willingly and give me the jewel and I will make your existence less painful"

"Never!" Kagome managed to spit at him as she tried to drag her half conscious body away from him.

"To bad you don't have any choice!" he said as he ripped the half jewel from around her bruised neck and put both half's together, not noticing the small dint in the middle.

"Now for my wish" Kagome did not manage to remember that the last shard was safe and panicked when she heard the wish "All demon blood will cease to exist to be absorbed by me and I will remain the most powerful being, none will overpower me" Kagome trembled as she saw a long bright flash of purple light and then passed out.

When she woke up it was already morning. Everything was as when she had passed out, except that there was a dark figure in front of her, after weakly standing up she went to see what it was. It was Onigumo.

She could not understand what this meant until she saw something glint eerily in the sunlight

"The Shikon no tama!" She managed to walk to it and with what little energy she had left, managed to purify it after awhile.

'I still do not understand why the corpse of Onigumo here is here, it should have ceased to exist completely' as she stared at the now pink complete jewel...'Wait a moment...the Jewel isn't complete, its still missing a shard...'then it hit her, the last shard was in her time so that Naraku would never have the complete jewel even if he won. 'That would explain it, when Naraku wished upon the incomplete jewel the wish was somehow twisted and instead killed all his demon blood. That would mean Inuyasha... ' "Oh my god, Inuyasha!" she searched for him hysterically; she found him and ran to him. His body was made a mess, his red haori looked dark crimson because of all the blood that leaked from all his wounds and a large hole in the middle of his chest. He was dead.

She backed away; the world had seemed to become black as she started running, where? She did not know, she just let her feet pick the way that her instinct guide her.

When she became conscious again she was someplace dark but warm yet she could not find comfort in it. In that moment she noticed Kaede besides a pot of stew while stirring its contents.

"Ye are awake child, good; I was starting to grow worried for thou" she said

"Kaede, how did I get here? How much time have I been here?" she asked, Kaede frowned

"Much time has passed, almost a week since thou ran bloodied and half conscious in here by your own strength. But, pray, where are the others? " She said

"There... dead..."she said barely over a whisper as a tear trailed down her cheek while Kaede looked thoughtful and sad.

After a short silence she said "Tell me child, it will help you relieve your worries" and Kagome told her all she remembered with a toneless voice but tears running down her cheeks

After she finished there was a long silence "it would be better child for you to spend some time home, from what you tell me the shikon is complete and it would be good for you "

Kagome agreed and accepted a bowl of stew Kaede gave her and began to pick her scarce pertinences and the jewel around her neck to prepare to go home

When Kagome arrived at the well she jumped in with out more than a look behind. When she hit the bottom on her side she managed to get out and walk up to the Goshinboku, there she collapsed and wept openly, her mother and brother found her like that and managed to calm her down enough to take to her room and lay her down on her bed after useless attempts to console her. A few minutes after they left, she stood up ad went to her desk to retrieve the last jewel shard. In her mind everything didn't seem real; the last shard was reentered to the jewel as easily that it didn't make justice to all the battles fought. Little did she know that with the last shard sealed, she had also sealed the well and her destiny...

Everything has just begun...
