To Find You Again by Igneous Phoenix
Prologue
Chapter one
"Mommy, look at these pretty flowers!" squealed a young girl.
"Yes dear, the flowers are beautiful," replied the mother in a warm voice while looking at her little girl with eyes filled with love.
Up on the hill, Kaede sighed as she looked down upon the mother and daughter. Oh how she longed to start a family and have a daughter of her own. But of course, a miko must be completely pure; both in heart and in body. Besides, she was a year past 50, far too old for a child.
"Lady Kaede, we need your help now," shouted a villager.
Kaede cast one last, longing glance at the happy family before picking up the herbs that she came out to gather and headed back down towards the village.
"There," said Kaede as she finished bandaging the wounds of a man. "Ye injuries will heal in no time. Until then, remember to put some herbs over ye wounds."
"Yes, Lady Kaede," replied the man.
As Kaede headed out the door, a young demon accidentally bumped into her.
"Pardon me, Lady Priestess," said the emotionless voice of a four year old demon that was known as Sesshoumaru.
"Don't worry," replied Kaede in a kind voice. "Just be more careful next time."
Sesshoumaru nodded and walked off.
Kaede smiled as she watched him leave; she always had a soft spot for him. Sesshoumaru was just a new born pup when a demon wearing a hood to conceal its face appeared in the village, holding him. The demon handed the baby Sesshoumaru over to the head chief and then, it disappeared as mysteriously as it came. The chief of the village was against the idea of having a demon living with them but after much discussion; they decided to let him stay. Ever since, Sesshoumaru had lived with them.
Kaede sighed in weariness as she gazed over the rushing waters of the river. Some of the men had came back from fighting the war that was happening against the Eastern and Western land and since then, she had been busy tending to their wounds. She sighed again as she thought back to the war that was raging against the two lands; it had lasted for over four years already with still no end in sight.
Suddenly the wailing cries of a baby broke Kaede from her chain of thoughts. Looking up, she saw a basket floating in the river currents. Kaede reached forward as quickly as her aging bones allowed her and grasped the basket before it floats away. Brushing off the piece of cloth that covered the opening of the basket, she peered inside. What Kaede saw made her gasped in shock and she nearly dropped the basket. Inside, there lay a baby girl with hairs that was the color of night and sapphire blue eyes.
"Where are ye parents?" asked Kaede as she lifted the tiny baby although she knew that the child doesn't even understand her. The only response that Kaede receive was a small coo.
"Well...let's get ye to the village and we'll see what we can do," Kaede said.
When she arrived back to the village with the baby girl in her arm, Kaede quickly headed over to the chief's house.
"Where did you get that child, Lady Kaede?" asked the chief.
"I found her in the river," she said. "So I took her to shore and brought her here."
The head chief of the village sighed in weariness and rubbed his temple. "And what, may I ask, are we going to do with her?"
Kaede thought for a moment before replying, "Until we find her parents, she shall live with me."
After a few minutes of thinking, the chief finally decided to let the baby stay with her. "Are you sure though, Lady Kaede? After all, she can be a handful."
"Oh don't ye worry, I am sure."
As Kaede made her way back to her hut, she thought of a name for the child. "Hmm...let's see, how about Kagome?" The only response that she received was a laugh and a little squeal.
"Well then, it's decided; ye name shall be Kagome." She said as she lifted Kagome to her chest for a warm hug.
A week has passed since Kaede first found Kagome. Although it was difficult for her to balance being a priestess and also a mother at the same time, Kaede found that she really enjoy taking care of her. Words started spreading around about the beautiful little girl that Kaede found and soon, everyone was coming to see her. Surprisingly, even Sesshoumaru came to visit one day and he seemed to have taken a liking for Kagome.
When Sesshoumaru first saw Kagome, he was stunned by her appearance. With her darker than midnight hair, clear blue eyes, scarlet full lips, and soft peachy skin, she was already the reflection of beauty at such a tender age. Suddenly, Kagome reached forth with her tiny hands and grabbed Sesshoumaru's fluffy tail.
"Hey! Let go," shouted Sesshoumaru. Although he was good at being calm and collective, he can easily lose his cool when it comes to his tail.
Kagome held onto his tail as if holding onto dear life; refusing to let go. Finally, Sesshoumaru managed to yank his tail away from her. Of course, Kagome's eyes started to fill with tears and her eyes seemed to be a reflection of the ocean. With a wail, she began to cry.
"Humans are such pathetic creatures," Sesshoumaru murmured. But like anyone else, he felt guilty for making her cry.
Sighing, he gave Kagome back his tail. Giggling, she grabbed his tail again and cuddled close to it. Looking at the adorable scene of Kagome hugging his tail, Sesshoumaru allowed a ghost of a smile appeared on his face. 'Being around these humans must be making me soft,' he thought.
A/N: Hi! This is my first fanfic and I apologize for any grammar mistakes...after all, I am still an ESL. I know Sess is kind of OOC but for now, I need him to be like that. I hope you enjoy this first chapter and don't worry, it will get better...lol...I was never good at doing introductions. Please review...this is my first fanfic and I need encouragements. Next chapter, Kag and Sess will be slightly older but they are still kids. It is until the third or fourth chapter where they will be 17 or 18. Bye!
