Kagome woke with a start and gasped. "Inuyasha! Wake up!"
Inuyasha looked over to her, not having been fully asleep.
"What is it now?" he asked, annoyance filling his voice.
Kagome closed her eyes as she spread her senses as far as they could go.
"I feel the other half of the shard. Real close." She answered worridly.
"What! I thought he wouldn't be here for another two days?"
"I know, but he's almost here. We have to wake the others and prepare" she said, rising from her sleeping bag.
"Um, Kagome?"
"What is it Inuyasha?", she replied, her smile almost big enough to light up the entire hut.
'Man, even when we're just a few hours away from a fight to the death, she still has the strength to be cheery', Inuyasha thought to himself.
"Inuyasha?", Kagome asked with concern in her voice.
"Oh, um..., well if things don't go as they plan and ...something happens to me, I want you to go home and forget about this place. I don't want you dying out there."
"Oh Inuyasha, we'll be ok. I have faith in all of us." She replied cheerfully.
' I wish I could feel the same.'
"Are you worried about me?" she teased.
"Feh. In your dreams." He replied.
As soon as the sun greeted the night sky with its kisses of light, Sango, Miroku, Inuyasha, and Kagome stood in the clearing next to the well. Sango was in her battle suit with hiraikotsu hung over her shoulder, standing next to Kirara, ready for anything. Miroku, on the other side of Kirara, stood in the same position as Sango, staff poised and ready. Inuyasha and Kagome stood a few feet away, both glancing around the clearing.
Inuyasah's head suddenly jerked up and sniffed the air.
"Damnit! Not now!" ,Inuyasha growled.
"What is it?" Kagome asked as she spread her senses out.
Just as she gasped, a lone figure stepped out of the tree line, approaching the group.
"Sesshoumaru! What in Kami's name are you doing here! I have much better things to do then mess with you right now!' Inuyasha snarled, drawing Tetsusaiga.
"Indeed, half-breed. I too have more important things to do than argue with the likes of you.", he snorted, never taking his gaze off of the Miko.
"You. Human. Are you the supposed protector of the Shikon no Tama."
Kagome glanced behind her, wondering who Sesshomaru was talking to.
"Who. Me?", she asked wide eyed.
"Yes. You.", annoyance ringing clearly through his voice.
"Um...yeah, I guess you could call me that, hehe.", she replied with a huge grin while rubbing the back of her head with her hand.
"Then I shall fight with you and ensure that Naraku is denied the Shikon." He replied, walking over to stand on Kagome's other side.
Just as everyone's jaws were collected off the ground, the sound of poisionous insects could be heard though out the morning air. Then a roar rumbled the earth as dark, ominous clouds rolled in over their heads, blocking the morning light.
"And it starts", Kagome muttered under her breath, notching an arrow.
"Kagome", Inuyasha yelled over the noise, "Remember what I said and don't go too far away from me. Ok?"
Kagome nodded her head in agreement and turned to face the thousands of youkai raining upon them from the sky.
Kagome released her first arrow, purifying at least several youki at once, while Sango lurched her Hiraikots with all her strength to the middle of the cloud. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha immediately unshethed their swords slicing through any demon who dared to get too close.
"Kagome, do you sense the Shikon?", Inuyasha yelled.
Kagome closed her eyes and searched the area.
"Yeah, right there at the edge of the woods!" she pointed.
Sesshomaru and Inuyasha ran to where she pointed. As soon as they reached the edge of the woods, a blood curdling scream was heard from behind them.
"KAGOME!!!", Inuyasha shrieked as he tried to run back to where he left her.
As he fought his way towards her, he saw Naraku, holding a struggling Kagome before him by her throat, laughing hystericly.
"Now, now, my beautiful miko, do not struggle against the inevitable."
Kagome whimpered, trying to pry his hands off her neck.
Sango turned around and gasped in when she saw the predictament Kagome was in.
"Kagome, hold on! Hiraikots!" Sango swung with all that she was worth and actually managed to knock Naraku off guard, knocking both him and Kagome to the ground. As they were falling, Kagome took the opportunity to snatch the other half of the Shikon from the distracted Naraku. Just as she was about to stand and make a run for it, Naraku reached up and grabbed her ankle.
"That wasn't very nice!", he growled, sending a tentacle flying straight at Sango.
"Sango! Watch out!", Kagome yelled.
But Sango was too busy fighting off the youkai coming towards her. Kagome shut her eyes, not wanting to see the death of her friend. But instead of hearing the cry of the demon exterminator, she heard a grunt of pain from a male. When she opened her eyes, she was assulted with the image of Miroku hovering over Sango, the tentacle impaling him through the abdomen. Sango turned around and screamed, horrified by the sight in front of her. Kagome choked back a sob, trying her best not to wretch.
"Damn, missed!" Naraku hissed, withdrawing the tentacle from the monk, his body
landing with a dull thump on the ground before Sango's feet.
Sango fell to her knee's before her fallen friend, not noticing the tentacle flying towards her. Her eyes went wide with pain as the tentacle pierced her throat, before collapsing over the still form of the monk.
"Noooooooo! Oh Kami, this can't be happening!" Kagome sobbed.
"But it is Miko, and there's nothing you can do.", Naraku chuckled, clearly enjoying her pain.
"Next is your precious hanyou and that troublesome brother of his."
"No, you WILL NOT TOUCH THEM!" she screamed in rage. And as she did this, her eyes started glowing an unearthly white.
"It will be you who will follow them in death." ,she whispered through clenched teeth, tears clearly running down her face.
"Ku, ku, ku. What is it you shall do? You are nothing but a weak and powerless human.", he sneered.
Kagome quikly checked the position of the inuyoukai brothers, and seeing them on the other side of the clearing, fighting the hoards of demons trying to get to her, she focused all of her energy into her hands.
"I'll purify your ass all the way back to the seven hells!"
And with that she aimed her hands at the hanyou. His eyes went wide, releasing her ankle. He jumped high into the air, barely missing the ball of purple energy as it went crashing into the well, shattering it into millions of pieces.
