Description:
This is my attempt for the Fairytale Twist Challenge. I chose the story for the Kuchisake Onna (Split-mouth Woman).
If you're unfamiliar with the tale, here is the basic idea:
There was an incredibly beautiful woman who married a wealthy samurai. Unfortunately, because of her beauty, the woman was also incredibly vain. Her husband was called away for some time by the lord he served, so the woman proceeded to have an affair with one of the village men.
Her husband came back sooner than expected, only to find his wife in the arms of another man. In a fit of jealous rage, he beheaded the man and took a sharp knife to his wife's lovely face. He split her mouth at both corners, giving her a literal "ear-to-ear" grin, then asked her, "Are you beautiful now?" while she lay dying on the floor.
Now, the Kuchisake Onna wanders around Japan with a surgical mask over the bottom half of her face. She looks like any normal, albeit beautiful, young woman, since the Japanese wear the same masks to protect themselves and others from colds during the sickly season.
Should you run across the Kuchisake Onna, she will ask you, "Am I beautiful?"
Answer 'yes' and she will pull the mask off of her face to reveal her disfigurement. She will ask you, "Am I beautiful now?"
Say 'yes' and she will kill you or disfigure you similarly with a pair of large, sharp scissors because she believes you are lying to her.
Say 'no' and you will receive the same fate because she is too vain to hear the truth.
The only way to save yourself is to tell her 'maybe.' This will confuse her and while she is thinking over your answer, you can make your escape.
So my twist... Sesshoumaru is the Kuchisake Otoko, the Split-mouth Man.
I really don't know what made me think this up, but I do like the Kuchisake Onna story, so... /shrug
