Ch1

A night sky full of stars sparkled over them as they sat on a bench in a gray and light purple gazebo. The pillars were a twisted style from top to bottom, and the gazebo sat a foot off the ground with three wide glass stairs. She sat with him close since it was a cool fall night, and they talked. She knew she had to go back into the hospital that stood thirty feet from them. The people in the hospital would soon find out she left. She didn’t know this man, but she knew they had a special connection. She didn’t know what he looked like; just that he was wearing a gray shirt and black jeans with sneakers. She knew they were under a thick red and black plaid blanket that draped over their shoulders and she was content to do nothing at that moment but sit in his arms all night.

The next thing she knew she was standing in a hospital room hooked to a machine that was beeping and she was banging on a door, wanting nothing more than to be held by him.

Please!” she screamed though her tears. She slid down the door that kept her in her room, and cried. When she looked up she was back, under the stars, completely captivated by his scent, and the hands that warmed her arms. She smiled and opened her eyes to look up into his face, the face of the true love of her life.

My mate.” Was the last words she remembered hearing before it all faded away.

It was a dream.

She turned to her boyfriend who lay next to her in their bed and started tearing up. Why? Why was she dreaming about such a wonderful man when she had a good boyfriend who loved her and treated her just fine?

Perhaps this dream was her remembering them when they first met. It was nowhere near the same as her dream though; she was never in the hospital. Maybe the hospital signified their differences as people.

Or . . .

She has only heard of it once, but some people have had dreams of the people who are their true soul mate. The hospital could mean that something was keeping her from her soul mate.

She shook her head and got off the bed. It was time to wake up. She had a long day ahead of her and she didn’t have time for fantasies.

She made breakfast as she heard her boyfriend leave their room and enter the bathroom.

She grabbed a few eggs and bacon and started cooking. Soon the condo started smelling of food and she was filling a plate for him and for herself.

Morning, Kagome, how was work yesterday?” he asked as he walked into the kitchen grabbing a plate.

It was alright,” she said grabbing a plate for herself. She sat across from him at their kitchen table and talked about work.

Oh, you know that we have to leave in three hours right?” she asked, unsure if he remembered.

He nodded his head as a yes as he finished his last bite of the eggs she made.

I cant go today. Don’t worry I’ll see you in three weeks, babe. Stop thinking about the trip there and start thinking of how great it will be to see your mom, dad and sister. You haven’t seen them in years. I just wish my job would let me go, too, but since we aren’t married they said I can't last night,” he responded as he put his plate and fork in the dish washer.

Really? They said no? I mean I know we talked about it being a high possibility, but still. Oh, I really was hoping they would say yes,” she said, putting her fork down. She felt like it was a stupid answer because this was vacation time he still didn’t use from last summer. It’s not like they were married, but she didn’t bring that up, not wanting to start an argument.

Yea no kidding, I had hoped so too. It’s been one thing after another and I could used a vacation of my own, but now they want me to go in early every day so I can take care of Aki's work as well since he’s going on vacation with his wife away from the kids. I now have to leave in an hour for work. It never ends I guess,” Takashi explained. He then walked out of their kitchen to the bedroom to change for work.

This always happens.” she sighed as she got a mug from her dish rack and filled it with water for tea. Once the tea was made she sat again at the table to drink her tea and thought about how she wanted him there with her at her sister’s house for the reunion.

Computer work can be stressful; she knew this but she felt like he wanted this. He always seemed to not say no to extra hours even though they both had a condo and had enough money to live on their own without each others support. She felt cold, but loved. She felt alone, but he was always there. Could there be more? Perhaps not. Maybe she was just being a little selfish, maybe this dream was only getting to her the more she thought about it, so she let it be and stopped thinking about it.

Well, I’m off. I will stop by on my break an hour after you leave to walk Mai around the block so don’t worry about walking her before you go,” she heard him say as she sat at the kitchen table with her tea. The dog looked up hearing her name and closed her eyes again, too old and tired to care.

Alright, have a good day at work, Takashi. I will call you once I get there,” she said as got up to see him out. He grabbed her and held her closely by their front door and gave her a loving kiss.

Love you, bye.” He opened the door and she held it there.

I love you too, I'll miss you,” she said, leaning her head on the door.

Takashi smiled and kissed her forehead and walked to his car. He drove off but not before waving. She stood there for awhile and wondered. Is it so bad? Or did she make it seem worse than it is.

She soon closed the door and stood up against it. She looked at the luggage she already had packed for him and herself last night in the living room. It was propped up against their couch since she didn't want it to fall over. She slid down the door and started to cry.

She would have to unpack his clothes.

After unpacking his clothes and putting his suitcases away she had only an hour until she needed to leave for her sister’s house. She looked at her watch and it read 11pm. She would have to go, but did she want to? She paced back and forth on her living room floor, with almost a death grip on her cell phone. She was unsure of whether she should make the phone call to her sister or not. There will be a family reunion tomorrow and she didn’t want to go. She knew what they would say about the excuse he gave her. She didn’t even know if she believed them herself.

~Beep, Beep~

She opened her phone and read the text, it was from her sister.

If you are thinking of canceling, I will come get you personally, and drag your pitiful body . . . . By the hair.” She felt a chill shoot down her back after the last part and sighed.

She would do it too,” Kagome sighed again and picked up her suit cases, it would be a long drive, and a long three weeks with her family. She gave her dog a kiss good bye and left the house. She walked to her car and put all of her luggage in the back and hopped into the driver seat and put her favorite mixed CD of Korean pop on.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Her car was a newer vehicle and was more than ready to make the 3 hour trip to her sister’s house, and her sister knew this or she would say it wasn’t working and she wouldn’t be able to come. Sadly her sister knew she treated her car like a baby and always make sure it was at 100%. This is what she thought of almost the whole trip there. She thought of every way she could turn around and say she couldn’t make it to her house. Well, mansion. God forbid her sister owned a normal house. Nope, she made sure she had all the luxurious things life had to offer. Was her sister a spoiled rich girl? No. Far from it. She had pride and that would eventually be her downfall. Kagome rolled her eyes as she got off the highway.

It had been two hours already and she still had another 40 minutes of driving in the mountain/forest of Japan to her sister’s property, then another 20 minutes of driving on her property till she was at the house. She turned on the news after the first hour and a half into the trip but now she was getting bored and switched back to her CD and turned the music up while smoking what felt like her 100th cigarette since she started the trip.

Kagome finally was at the last turn till she was on her sister’s property. As she entered the property she also entered a barrier that only allowed family in, unless a guest was expected. Her eyes were once brown was now red with purple spikes and her hair that was once black was now a reddish black. She could feel a warmth rise to the top of her senses and felt the full extent of her powers. The bridge that was in the middle of her sister’s property would let her know she had 10 minutes left and she slowed down to a stop in front of it. She put her car in park and closed her eyes, remembering the last time she visited her sister’s house.

Are you still dating that human?” her sister asked in a simple tone. She heard no response and looked over at Kagome. “You know he is worthless, right?” Aya asked from her spot on a couch in her back porch. Trees lined her whole property and this was her main reason for living in the woods. Not one person to see them or be around them. Aya was always happiest alone.

Is that your business? I don’t recall you ever meeting him,” Kagome said, putting her nose up in the air knowing it would make Aya mad.

I don’t recall him ever coming here to meet us,” Aya shot back. Her eyes make her look angry but with that smile, Kagome knew then that Aya was being cruel on purpose.

Perhaps I would rather he not meet such a family then?” Kagome threw back at her sister.

Aya laughed at this and stood. “The day that human shows any interest in loving your heart and not your womanhood is the day I would see him as more than a bug.” Aya’s eyes burned bright red in anger and she left the room.

Kagome opened her eyes and looked to the bridge her car sat in front of. She knew Aya didn’t do more than just hurt her with words and walk away because their little sister was there, but this year Layla will be gone for the first week. Layla was Aya’s pride and joy. Aya was a full vampire and so was Layla, whereas Kagome was only half vampire, half miko. The blood in their family was mixed, their father being a vampire and their mother being a miko. Everyone in their family knew it would start a fight, but they all decided to let it happen and see how it goes.

Kagome let out a long heavy breath and then screamed, trying to release the stress she had building up. She put her car in drive and hit the gas as hard as she could; she hoped she could get this all over with as soon as possible. Hopefully the week would go by so fast and so uneventful that she went home in a better mood then she came in.

Her car sped through the bridge and she yelled as a burst of red light hit her eyes and engulfed her and her car. Before she knew it she was in a white portal. It had sparks of red everywhere, almost like red stars in a white space. She slammed on her breaks and it did nothing to stop her from moving along through this portal-like area.

What’s going on? Where am I? What the hell is happening?” Her eyes were wide open and her whole body was shaking at this point.

Before she knew it her foot, still on the break, made her car slam to a stop. As she looked around, she seemed to be back at her sister’s forest, she seemed to be on the other side of the bridge. She threw her car in park and jumped out of the car and landed on her hands and knees on the ground.

Kagome looked up and noticed she was ok, she was on the right road and that she just almost had a heart attack. She slowly got up and grabbed her cigarettes from her car and took a long drag off of it. She leaned on the car and tried to stop shaking.

That had to have been some kind of day dream; I don’t have the power to see any kind of future like Aya so there’s no way that’s what it was. It was just a day dream.’ She thought this while smoking and trying to take even breaths.

She went in her car one more time and grabbed her phone to call her sister. Kagome was too scared to drive the rest of the way alone now. Not after what just happened. As soon as her phone dialed Aya’s number it went to a busy signal and had static. Kagome’s forehead wrinkled at this in confusion. She always got good reception here. She looked up and around and she choked on the smoke she inhaled from her cigarette. There was not one phone pole or any lines in her sight. Not one.

What the hell is going on here?” She said as her heart started pounding again. How was this happening? Aya never mentioned this nor would she. The day Aya lost internet would be a cold day in hell, so it couldn’t be Aya’s doing.

Kagome jumped into her car and sped off to her sister’s house in hopes of her or someone being there. She got over the hill to where it evened out and drove until she got past the woods and into the clearing where her sister’s house once sat right in the center of a medium sized valley.

Kagome got out of her car and couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Her sister’s house was no longer there, it was now instead a village of people—people who were not only pointing and talking in hushed tones about her and her strange clothing, but also scared of a beast that was behind her.

She turned around to face the beast they were talking about and gasped. They were talking about her car. She threw her head back in their direction and saw some of the men with spears and swords in their hands coming her way.

I’m not here to hurt anyone, really; I don’t even know where I am. Um, what year are we in?” She said this while backing away from them and into her car with her hands up.

What is a year? Are you a demon? Did you come to take over our village?” They asked her this as they held their spears and swords ready to strike if need be.

No, I don’t know where I am, I don’t want to hurt anyone. I don’t even know how I got here.”

Kagome heard the sound of people talking in hushed tones saying she was a demon trying to trick them. She ran to her car and threw it in revers till she was far enough away to sped back to the bridge. Something wasnt right. If she went through the bridge to enter another universe or time then she could go back the same way.

She got to the bridge and figured to go the same speed she went before to make it work. When she did that the bridge collapsed as soon as her front tired hit the ground of the other side and she almost didnt make it.

She saw no white space and no red stars.
