Kagome stood motionless with tears falling from her eyes as she observed the two lovers in an affectionate embrace, while she felt her heartbreak into more pieces than the Shikon no tama. Ever since she met the half-demon Inuyasha she’d been loyal to him promising to always stand beside him no matter what the situation and this is how he shows his appreciation of her by finding love in someone else’s arms. She couldn’t really blame him though, nothing and no one could ever replace someone’s first love if he was happy then she was happy for him.
“I promise Kikyo, I promise to by no means love anyone other than you,” She heard him say to the woman in his arms.
“What about that Kagome?” Kikyo asked emotionlessly.
“She means nothing to me,” Inuyasha whispered. “As soon as we’ve completed the jewel, I’ll send her back to her time and use the jewel so you can pick up where you left off with life.”
“Why wait that long, just send her home now I can help locate the rest of the jewel shards.” Kikyo put forward.
Kagome gasped as she slowly withdrew not capable of hearing anything more, she had to get out of there she didn’t want to see either of them a second longer. She ran as fast and as hard she could to get away, she had given up her friends, family and schooling to search for the jewel shards. The bushes and brambles scratched the exposed skin on her legs but she kept running, even when she saw Sesshōmaru’s tachi she ran past them not even giving them a second glance, collapsing when she reached a small clearing that overlooked a seaside cliff.
Sesshōmaru had heard the young woman approaching their location at a quick pace, but since she didn’t pose a threat to him or Rin he decided not to pay it any attention what was uncharacteristic was the absence of the half-breed’s disgusting odor mixed with the tantalizing florescent aroma of the priestess. When she ran past him not so much as giving him a glance it made him alarmed for the little female especially when he got a whiff of her tears and felt the sorrow in her aura which had always been jovial. He fluidly rose from where he was seated and told his retainer that he would return before following in the direction she had gone, even though she was nothing more than a mere mortal he had always held her to a higher standard than others and seeing her in such a state of anguish unnerved him profoundly. When he found her she was on her knees as sobbing and gasping for air, on no occasion in all his years had he seen anything more pitiful or anyone he desired to comfort more.
“Sesshōmaru if you’re here to kill me, please just do it no one will stop you.” She said causing the demon lord to raise an eyebrow at her request.
“You will not tell this Sesshōmaru what to do priestess.” He stated coldly observing as she wiped away a tear from her eyes. “This Sesshōmaru is not here to kill you in spite of what you may think.”
“Then why are you here?” She thought looking in the direction of the heavens. “I ask for your forgiveness Sesshōmaru-sama I just... I don’t want to be here anymore.”
The magnificent demon creased his brow since when had she become so formal, he didn’t like it. “Where’s the half breed?”
“He’s with… Kikyo.” She said rising to her feet and turning to face him. She would never forget the first time she had seen the demon lord, she had looked at him with fear and intrigue she would even go far to say that she experienced a bit of an arousal when he approached her in their father’s tomb after she had drawn the tetsusaiga. She wondered on occasion what it would be like to experience an evening of passion with him though she would never tell anyone that, it would be a fantasy that she wouldn’t be able to get rid of for a long time. “This will be the last time we cross paths, because of a decision Inuyasha has made I’m going back to my country.”
“This Sesshōmaru asks that you not leave based on the decision of the half-breed, he is but a moron.” He said stepping towards her, this was the opportunity he’d been waiting for with the female. He had a feeling that his fool of a brother would do something to jeopardize the relationship he had with her and that would give the demon lord the opportunity to pursue her. Even though she was human he found her quite attractive with silky black hair and blue eyes that held a fire of passion unlike any he had ever seen. She had a good figure although she was a bit too thin for his liking something he would have to remedy as well as her choice of wardrobe.
“You’re the last person I’d expect to ask me not to leave, what’s next Naraku proclaiming he’s madly in love with me?” Kagome said with a soft laugh only to stop when she saw the cold scowl she was getting from Sesshōmaru. “I appreciate it, but I don’t think I could go back to traveling with Inuyasha right now especially after what was said and I don’t think traveling alone is a safe course of action.”
“Then travel with this Sesshōmaru, you are more than welcome to.” He stated grinning when he saw the surprise written over the priestess’s face. “This Sesshōmaru can guarantee your safety.”
“What’s in it for you?” The young priestess replied knowing that the demon lord wasn’t the sort to do something in exchange for nothing.
“This Sesshōmaru only asks that you take over the protection and care of Rin from Jaken.” He said nonchalantly and this time it was the young woman’s chance to raise an eyebrow.
“I guess…” she surmised not really sure of her choice and watched as the demon lord began to walk away. “But then I need to retrieve my belongings from the encampment.”
“Very well, and priestess do not lie to this Sesshōmaru a second time I am well aware that you are from another time.” He said walking at a leisurely pace allowing the woman to catch up to him as a smirk appeared on his lips. The odd couple walked in silence towards her former group’s camp to retrieve her belongings. They came to a stop once they were on the peripheries of her friend’s campsite. “Go gather your possessions, I’ll wait here for you.”
Without saying a word Kagome continued onward to retrieve her belongings, she could see the fire that illuminated the area and noticed that Miroku was sound asleep propped up against a tree while Sango and Shippo were curled up next to Kirara giving her the opportunity to slip in and out without being noticed. She picked up her backpack and looked at her friends, she was going to miss them but at least this way she would still be able to see them.
“Goodbye…” She whispered and tiptoed out of the area with the backpack on her shoulder to start on a new chapter in her life.
