When The Stars Have All Burned Out
Strange that even in modern times there was still people who needed the services of a good old fashion Miko. Who would have thought that after failing high school, thanks to her forays back and forth through time, Kagome found the perfect job doing much the same thing as she had running about feudal Japan. Of course she ended up having to take a page from Miroku’s book since there simply was not as many evil spirits around as there use to be. At first she felt guilty of her made up spooks, but after a few years she realized that the peace of mind give from a true blessing by a priestess was worth the minimal fees she charged. And, well, a girl had to make a living.
However it was nights like this that made her job difficult. Because sometimes the ghosts where real. Sometimes you could hear them howling mournfully from beyond the tattered screens and deserted doorways. Sometimes you could feel their sorrowful, lonely energy battering against your soul till you felt your knees wanting to give out. On nights like this all she wanted to do was run.
Instead she turned the latch and walked into the darkness.
