Stealth:
He moved with a quiet stealth across the roof of the old shrine. His objective was clear. Kill the Higurashi girl before she was pulled into the well and the fiasco with the Jewel of Four Souls would never happen. His life would once more be well ordered and he would be on his way once again to dominate the world. Slowly he slid in through her open window and gazed down at the sleeping girl.
Pulling a syringe from his belt he leaned forward. She would never wake come morning.
Poison:
Sesshomaru froze as the teen girl sighed in her sleep and shifted on her pillow allowing the full moon to illuminate her delicate features.
Kami, she looked like a slightly older Rin. Could he do this? Could her inject someone as innocent as her with poison just because his plans had been thwarted in the past? What if someone had tried to do this to his dear Rin?
His hand shook slightly at the thought of someone doing this to his daughter and slowly put the syringe away.
Anonymity
He watched Kagome from the shadows, from the anonymity of the crowds that came to the shrine on holidays and as she skipped her way to school with her friends. He knew the time was coming soon when her life and his would change forever.
He realized now how selfish he had been in the past and now in the future and vowed to atone for what he’d attempted to do to the miko.
Hidden
He found his vow to remain hidden from her as she traipsed back and forth between time a difficult one, especially when she came home many times shedding tears for whatever transgression his fool of a brother had committed.
Was the idiot blind to what a gem he had in the innocent girl? His claws dug into the tree he sat in above the weeping girl and silently wished there was some way to comfort her.
Mission:
Smirking inwardly at his stroke of genius, Sesshomaru set his newest mission in motion. He had come up with a plan to aid the miko.
With his disguise in place he knocked firmly upon the door of her house. He introduced himself to Kagome’s mother as a tutor the school had sent to assist Kagome with her flagging studies.
An hour later and it was all in place. He would be meeting with the miko twice a week as she recovered from her “illnesses”. He glided serenely down the steps. His plan was in place and the world would be changed for the better.
Training:
It was remarkable easy to help Kagome with her “homework”. He had even managed to convince the girl and her mother he could help with her miko training.
He worked the girl hard and he was sure at times she hated him but she steadily improved. The only problem during their sessions was avoiding the hanyou when he appeared upon occasion.
How had he forgotten what a fool the boy was?
Sighing he brought his mind back to the girl studying the book before her. He was finding it increasingly difficult to let her disappear down the well each time. She was in such danger there and he couldn’t protect her. He knew that soon she would face Naraku and be brought back to this time.
All he had to do was wait and he would finally finish what he had set in motion.
Secret:
Again he stood in the shadows and watched her, the lovely young woman known as Kagome. He hid his secret deep within as he watched her blossom into a young woman. She still knew him as her slightly older tutor and they maintained an easy friendship. About her seventeenth year he had realized he had fallen in love with his “student” and it ate at him that one day she would return to the hanyou.
It was ironic when you thought about, he the human hating Sesshomaru who had been bent on dominating the world had lost his heart to a human, a miko at that!
He, like his father before, was a damn fool.
Assassin:
Sesshomaru sat in the God Tree once again waiting for Kagome to arrive home from school when he heard the frightened cry from the street.
He jumped down and ran towards the terror filled sound. It was Kagome! He knew her voice anywhere. At the base of the long stairway to the shrine grounds he saw her struggling with a young male. He dashed down the steps and attacked the miscreant who dared to touch his beloved Kagome. Drawing back a fist he plowed it into the man’s face. As the attacker flailed backwards his fingers caught on the chain Sesshomaru wore around his neck, snapping the fragile links.
He turned and watched the growing horror in Kagome’s as he turned from tutor to the Assassin she knew from old.
Katana:
She sat beside him at his home and held the katana in her hands so carefully. He was pleased to see the reverence in her hands as she carefully examined Tensaiga , his brother’s sword.
He had carefully protected it all this time after the death of them both but he would never tell her that.
He was hoping for a different outcome, one that involved her staying with him in this time. He no longer wanted to rule the world. He wanted her as she was a bright light in his darkness.
Carefully removing the blade from her hands, he laid placed it back within it sheath and set it back in the stand he kept it on. Turning back to her he decided it was time to confess what he had been harboring in his heart for so long.
Dart:
It had been a month since he has seen her last. She had been speechless when he had confessed his love to her and silently stood up and walked out. He hadn’t pursued her, thinking she needed time to figure things out. After all, anyone would be in a state of shock to suddenly have their enemy show up on their door and profess their love for them!
He knew from the stories he had heard in the past today was the day the well opened briefly. He had to see her before she jumped in, to convince her to stay within this world. Stopping the car, he quickly made to dart up the stairs when the wash of the dying energies of the well rolled over him.
He stopped midway and stood still. He was too late, she had gone to InuYasha. He dropped to stairs and held his head in trembling hands. Once again he was alone. A sudden dizziness overtook him a sudden memories flooded him, recollections that hadn’t been there before. He heard a scrape of a shoe on the cement above him and turned.
A brilliantly smiling Kagome stood before him. “Sesshomaru?” she spoke softly. “I stayed. I love you, too.”
