Kagome licked her lips, cold sinking deep into her bones. Her hand flexed mechanically, as if she herself held the object in question, but she forced herself to remain still, even as every inch of her screamed for her to act.

Ahead, Sesshoumaru stood, eyes narrowed. The clench of his jaw went unnoticed except by those who knew him, and Kagome could feel the anger that roiled beneath his skin.

It was only a matter of time.

“Lay down your sword,” their enemy said again.

The daiyoukai never looked away. “No.”
